Moved our webhosting to FeaturePrice.com 6 mos ago and just learned they are closing down operations 5/5/03. Since you all are the gurus of web sites and hosting, would value your recommendation(s) for another webhosting service.

We are a non-profit horse sanctuary (www.rainbowridgeranch.org) with few requirements for webhost. Obviously price consideration is important. Also a priority - fast (live?) tech support, FP extensions, Pay Pal account for donations.

Any recs on who to use and who NOT to use? THANK YOU!!!

wow. I did not think featureprice would ever shut down.

I suggest looking around the forums and seeing who has a good reputation. It is obvious that you do not have much time to get all of this done so you might want to post a request in the web hosting requests forum just make sure you don't fall for anything "too good to be true" and try to get a little feedback on any of the hosts that interest you..

any make sure you have a backup of all your stuff ready to go to your new host.. good luck

I'm an ex-FeaturePrice customer and am now with www.unitedhosting.co.uk and am very happy. I've been with them since February.

If you search the forums for them you will find consistent praise.

This forum is a great place for reviews and resources. I have seen many FeaturePrice refugees seeking help here.

their web site still operate and nothing about they are being closed down. Where do you get that news?

I believe Ronnie over at AlwaysWebHosting.com is running a 'FeaturePrice Refugee Special' in which you get a discount if you're an ex-FeaturePrice customer. You might want to check them out, I've heard good things about them.

Well their site had a cease business notice on it for 5/5 earlier today, then it went blank and again back to a normal page as if nothing had been posted? More details are in this current thread

I can advise you who not to use, based on my past experience:

Communitech.net - poor support since their sale to Interland.

Based on experience from people at this board, and your own experience with FeaturePrice closing, be very cautious of any host that offers any plans of unlimited disk space or bandwidth. That can signal a host that has a lower profit margin, so they may not be in it for the long haul (or they'll get bought out by another company - and in my own experience, that's exactly when support suffers, in the 6-12 months following a buyout.) The other hosts that I've been with in the past, it's been so long that their support levels may have recovered, so I can't really speak about their quality. (It was one local ISP and then Webcom, in case you're curious. It's been half a decade since I was with Webcom.)

Look for a host that has good communication and offers the features you need. Also check out their guarantees, their client contracts, and (if they have one) their refund policy to see if you agree with them. Once you've found a host that you like, try contacting them and asking if they give discounts for nonprofit groups. Some do, some don't - but it can't hurt to ask.

I keep seeing that you have been running closing mentions for featureprice. We just signed up in early March, lost the site a couple of weeks later and cannot get any support . The control panel can be accessed, ftp works but that's it, no site. Their help "ticket" system worked then suddenly became unavailable
The biggest reason for trying them (I didn't move my full site there, happily, just a test one as a start) was the disk space and ability to give my clients FTP access to our photos which can take a lot of space.

I have a couple non-profits with FeaturePrice and have been wondering why we're not getting email. Sure would have been nice to know this sooner but glad I signed up for this Forum today. I appreciate the help. This is the second time I've been stranded. Guess I don't do a very good job of picking hosts.:bawling:

I hope you continue to hear good things as I just signed on with them. I like the month to month billing as I've been burned twice with annual billing. More than enough!

I'd also like to say that I'm SO GLAD I found this Forum. Perhaps it will help me avoid problems in the future. I am a retired teacher who does web sites for non-profits, just for the "fun" of it. ;)

Go with a large company (not worldcom ;-). Got good experience myself with VenturesOnline.com. They tell me myacen, site5, futurequest and pair are good (to name a few).
Success!
