to edit the DNS records of your default account?
ie: you sign up with domain.com
and has whm access..
can you edit the DNS records for domain.com?
or rather.. is it even possible to edit?

Depends how your host has it setup. If they transfer ownership to you, then yes.

It's possible to give resellers the ability to edit DNS entries, but my guess is that most hosts do not give this out since it gives you access to all zones, not just your accounts.

From WHM Server Setup->Reseller Center:
Edit DNS Entries (warning: this will allow access to all zones)
I haven't actually tried it, so you could be correct :D

It allows access to all zones owned by <reseller>
I've checked it out on numerous reseller accounts. It's possible that's what they mean or it used to allow them to edit them all, but from what I'm looking at right now only the ones owned by the reseller logged in the WHM.
If it did/used to they probably got a lot of complaints about it...

It allows access to all zones owned by <reseller>
That certainly makes more sense. I guess the warning is left over from older versions.
Thanks for the correction.

True. Some hosts disable it because if an unexperienced reseller messes up the dns zone of a domain, the domain would not work properly, and the host would have to fix it.. :)
As long as you know what you are doing, its not "dangerous" :)

The default account is not accessible from your whm, only the accounts you create. So that means if you can't edit an account you didn't create then you can't edit the default account.

Once again, the root WHM has the ability to push ownership of an account to another person. You CAN do this with the default account, even other reseller accounts (I've never actually tried this so I have no idea what options it gives you).
