can someone give me some feedback? dogma mentioned downtime on the weekend, but is this a constant thing? will i be dealing with downtime every weekend? ANY feedback would be awesome :)

there used to be downtime almost everyweekend (For the 3 weeks I've been with them) when they were at BurstNET(tm) but since being @ NAC.net they have only had Dolphin go out for some time b/c of a server overload.

Are there any people other than Dogma have accounts with aletia?

I only got feedbacks from Dogma and that's not convincing enough.

By the way, Dogma, what's the domain you have with aletia? I want to use the monitoring service to check the performance for several days. I asked Mark to give me a site, and still waiting for a reply.

I'm new to Aletia -- one account has been terrific (since the switch, anyway) ... I'm not thus far pleased with my personal account. I went eight months with less than five total hours of downtime -- and paid a lot more for it, mind you. And I'm looking at well over ten hours this month alone. In fact, I'm down right now ... as is the Aletia homepage. I'm giving it one more month to settle ... because I like their support and their features.

They are a great and dedicated host.

I urge you to stick with them, they will get everything settled and you will be happy as can be very soon.

Right -- it's all down right now. Me -- probably Dogma -- Aletia.

But I can visit other sites hosted by Aletia that are fine and speedy. So it's one server. I suspect (though I could be wrong) that it has something to do with a site using too many resources.

I want it to work out with Aletia. I honestly do. They seem like a great host to grow with -- which is what I was looking for.

hmm, maybe you should try to ask them to move your site to another server with a better uptime record?

i'd definitely request it if the downtime seems persistent on the server that your site is on...

Funny thing is: they moved my site to this server before the other sites I run. It was smashing for about a week -- not a moment of downtime. Then it went down hard on Saturday.

It just came back up again.

yep, your site and Dogma's site is now up...
if the request to move your site to a more reliable server doesn't work... then well, doesn't leave you with much option to work with...

Well, maybe this is skewed reasoning here -- but now that I think about it, I actually kind of like being on the same server as the Aletia site -- because if I'm down, THEY'RE down. :cool:

Now I think I should reconsider it. There has been two downs after Mark posted a promotion in the advertising forum. Which means two downs in two or three days. Not a good sign at all!

Erratic,

Email them asking for their MRTG / Cricket graphs. Every single server (well at least 99.99%) have something like this installed. This will show you exactly how much bandwidth they have been using and will show you any downtimes they have had over the past day/week/month/year.

We have been monitoring the particular machine (dolphin) that has been having these issues, and reasonably suspect that a piece of hardware has gone bad.

As such we will be replacing the CPU and RAM for dolphin within the next 2 days. A further announcement will be made via email to affected clients.

New client accounts are not being setup on dolphin and therefore are not affected by the faulty hardware.
