Well, just signed up for a new host but do not find any reference to Miva like they offered.
If I stay with them I need to get a new web forum setup, sort of like this one. Now with me being cheap and lazy, I need something to match.

Any ideas?

What's the relation between Miva and a web forum, one wonders?

Anyhow, vBulletin is currently a personal fave (php/mySQL - at http://www.vbulletin.com). There is also Phorum (http://phorum.org(?)). Board Power (http://thewebmasterguide.com). Etc.

Thanks for the info. As for miva, had setup a few web forums using it. After 3 years, I'm kind of attached to it

Ah, gotcha. Miva script running discussion forums must have been rather interesting. :)

Hmm, just found out they don't support Miva even though it's included in the administrative control panel thing.

Well, h$ll. Will cancel it in the morning and keep looking.

I have nver heard of a connection between miva and boards, but would I be wrong in suggestion that this person drop any and all concerns about miva, and set up his board the errrrr, normal way? I don't mean to say that you are doing something wrong Milman, I really don't know what you are doing, but generally (what everyone is hinting at), you don't need miva.

If you just want to set up a board, follow some of the links or try ub2k.com which someone said is very easy to set up (no miva required) :)

board/forum, it's all the same thing to me.

here's a sample http://www.tonyaharding.org/tonya/msgboard.mv

I'd love to switch over to a CGI type script but don't wanna loose all the work that I've put into it plus after spending all last night on a simple random image script, I want something simple and easy. Like I said, I'm lazy...

MilkMan,

Recreating a threaded board like your example is easy. There are a lot of programs and some will let you do most everything from the administrative interface. I've got some information on my site you might find useful. Just go to http://techcellence.net and look on the right side menu. You will find links to sites that list many programs, including David Woolley's site, which has the majority of htem listed.

I spent a year (1998) looking at well over a hundred programs in search of a replacement. The program I envisioned didn't exist at the time, and it was a long search.

Some people are prejudiced towards a type of program, threaded or linear, whereas I feel each is better suited to a particular purpose.

There are lots of good choices, even among free programs, syou you should be able to find something that matches your budget (even if it's zero).
