Hi,
I wanted to know if placing files (images, ...) on a different server to save bandwidth is "allowed" by the hosting companies ?

It depends on what hosting company you are looking at. Many companies have different polices on this. I recommend either listing the companies you are looking at, or contacting them directly and asking. :)
I was thinking of tera-byte. Hosting plan number 4 which include 20 gig per month.

yea, it'll be good to look at the hosts terms of service... but unless the host offers something outrageous euphemistic feature like "unlimited bandwidth" I don't think you'll have a problem... just as long as you pay for the full cost of the account you're getting and compensate the host if you go over the bandwidth limit set by the package
as Vincent already mentioned and should be done regardless of any comments made at WHT, its the best to contact the company you're interested in ;)

I'd say read the policy or contact them, just to be sure... I don't see what would be wrong with it...Well.... If your a porn site and leech from their servers...I mean like a BIG porn site... We had some idiot leech 150GB a DAY (4.5 tera byte a month) once....I don't think they'll be happy to take you then....
Just ask them would my suggestion be

if your really trying to save bandwidth...
use multiple free servers for your images
then insert the image, then if that server is down, an on_error event directs it to a second free server image, ect ect.
a friend of mine hosts all of his downloads on free servers to save bandwidth

I think that should be Ok.
Many people do host parts of their sites on different servers.
Most hosts do not seem to place any kind of restrictions as far as it is not used as a download site or banner server.
Some hosts do mention that some percentage (70-80%)
of files stored should be linked to the pages and not left 'standalone'.
