I must have looked at 20 or more web hosts in the last few days. Finding someone that will host adult content is difficult enough, but finding someone who can provide 2 gigs of disk space is even harder.

I am ready to buy a hosting account from someone, and I have one contender out of the 20 hosts I've seen, but I want to get some more comparisons. I realize that most hosting accounts now come with a myriad of bells and whistles, but these are my minimum requirements:


Unix based
2 GB of disk storage
At least 10 GB of monthly data transfer, with the ability to scale up at a reasonable price ($5 to $8 per GB) as the site grows in popularity
One MySQL db, one subdomain, one POP3, CGI, SSI, FTP access (all basic stuff)
Access to raw logs
Server must be in U.S.
Data center should have redundant T3 or better
Host should be a reputable company, the more experience the better. No resellers!
I should be able to get hold of someone on the phone 7 days a week, and get a reply to my e-mail within 24 hours.
I wish to be able to pay by check each month, due to the fact that I'm part of a 3-way partnership and the partnership doesn't have a credit card and I'd prefer not to use my own for business purposes.


Also a big plus (but not a requirement) is cron tab support. I am willing to pay upwards of $100/month to be hosted with a high quality hosting company. I am not impressed by anyone that can offer "unlimited" disk or bandwidth, or anyone that gives away the world for $19.95. I want to be with someone who has plans for staying in business. You're likely to grab my interest if you can provide references of current customers and/or you can point me to any third party reviews of your service.

have you ever considered getting a dedicated server? I think for adult web hosting that large, you should at least consider it...

just ask around in WHT for quotes for a dedicated server ;)

Wow.. That’s a tall order. What you ask is real hard for any host to swallow, especially at $100 per month. My suggestion is to increase your budget to around $500 per month and get a basic dedicated server somewhere. You may have to pay up to 3 or 4 months in advance if you are not willing to pay by credit card.

Any host with any experience knows that most adult sites can do 10GB a day in transfer if given the chance.

In short you are asking for lobster on a chicken budget.

Thanks for the responses. We fully intend to go to a dedicated server within a few months, but the web site isn't online yet, so we have zero customers. We expect it to take about three months to ramp up to the point where we can shell out $300 to $500 a month for a server.

This is also the reason why I only need about 10 GB of bandwidth to start. Once we get enough customers to use up 20, 50, or 100 GB of bandwidth, the money will naturally come with it, and we can afford to buy more bandwidth.

The reason we need 2 GB of disk space is because we have about 5000 pictures to start and we intend to make zips of each picture series. We are also adding new pictures and zips each week.

Once again, I appreciate the comments, and I'll take a look at the dedicated server suggestions.

Go dedicated. 2gigs of space is a nice chunck of server, and only serving up 10gigs that host wont make a dime. And if you plan on going to dedicated in a few months, your better off to go now. Because once your paysite is up the last thing your going to want is downtime.

Weinbar.com does adult on their shared servers and their bandwidth price is pretty low.

Or prohosters.com because they are very cheap and I think they are there for the adult industry.
