View Full Version : How is Weinbars dedicated server???
I have been looking around for dedicated server. I found weinbar offers a reasonable price for setup and monthly fees. But their bandwith price is very cheap $1-1.5/gb. I am just wondering whether there is a catch for this?? I would like to hear the good and bad about weinbar. How is their services compare to burstnet and ventureonline?
Thanks in advance
freakysid 06-25-2001, 11:49 PM I am also curious to hear from others who have dedicated servers with Weinbar about whether support is improving and the quality of the connection out of their NOC. I know they have had their troubles in the past couple of months with staffing and support - and I have been scared off puting them into my shortlist. But the bandwidth prices are very attractive :)
Matrix 06-26-2001, 01:46 AM I've been with weinbar and their dedicated service for 4 months now and I have a 99.47% uptime. Just a few days ago there was some down time and they posted something in their forum about the service provider.
As for tech support it's still been slow and I don't know why.
I have a guy that does web work for me and he sent a tech request to their support e-mail back on 6-7 which hasn't been answered. However, he should of opened up a ticket and I just opened one up on 6-25. So i'm waiting on a response back on that.
XTStrike 06-26-2001, 04:08 AM ive had a dedicated with them for a few months, as you have probably noticed in previous messages on the forum.
I dont phone people up much for support, i prefer to do anything on the server myself.
Of the times I have requested DNS additions/changes they have been very responsive in adding them to the servers.
Uptime is great and I can always tell if there is any downtime because I run Hybrid IRCD from the server and if it goes down I get a netsplit from the rest of the network, so I monitor 100% of the time.
I must admit, one of the reasons I signed up with WeinBar was because of the ICQ support they gave, it was great, i mean a simple message to them and a reply very quickly, but this seems to have dried up and they are no longer on ICQ anymore (it would be good for a WeinBar response on this one if possible)
Other than that, the only thing I use weinbar for is to make sure the network is running and for DNS additions, thats it, and they are currently doing a good job with these two things, the rest I do myself or get friends to do that have the knowledge, that way any configuration problems lie purely with me.
XTStrike 06-26-2001, 10:39 AM so far with my weinbar server:
Uptime for monitored period is 99.62%
Log begins May 1 06:07
Host returned error May 10 08:42
Host resumed status normal May 10 09:47
Host returned error Jun 5 05:50
Host resumed status normal Jun 5 06:55
Host returned error Jun 14 11:00
Host resumed status normal Jun 14 11:04
thought these stats might be interesting :-)

...whether support is improving...
Unfortunately, not. :-( My server has been unavailable since June 5th (it was my fault that it went down), but Michael has not replied at all to my requests to have a backup restored. I pay $100/month to have the backup service on the server, but what's the point when you can't even do anything with those backups?!

Let me get this straight. Your server has been unavailable from June 5th till today (June 28th)?

XTStrike 06-28-2001, 05:15 AM Im sorry I cant even begin to believe that claim, I have a dedicated server with weinbar and it crashed yesterday (not sure why but it was probably my fault)
I contacted them and asked for a server reboot and a disk check/recover was run to recover some corruption and it was back up again, that was all within about 8 hours, so to claim its been down that long is ridiculous.
Kaith Sutai-Rustaz 06-28-2001, 12:18 PM Was an actual help-desk ticket entered?
Did you just email michael?
Or just post on the forums?
Best way is thru the help desk...seems to get the fastest responce.
Rehan 06-29-2001, 09:22 AM I guess I need to defend myself... :-)
I had only one real web site on that system, which I was able to move off quickly. I've been busy with more important stuff, so I didn't get a chance to bug Weinbar about this problem every 15 minutes.
But I did e-mail support, e-mail Michael, create a help desk request, and leave voice mail. The only reply was one from Michael a couple of nights ago indicating the restore had been done...but my server is still down. Maybe they restored files from a backup made *after* I made the request; I haven't received a reply to that question yet.
(I also posted this message (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=12463#post93478) a while ago about the same problem...)

are they going to fix it ? or you will just leave it as it is for another month? :D
DHWWnet 06-29-2001, 02:52 PM Rehan,
