Thanks Fragit69 wubwob 04-29-2003, 12:36 PM what country ? fragit69 04-29-2003, 12:47 PM USA baby! Dmax 04-29-2003, 02:41 PM If you are west I'd recomend www.rentals.nuclearfallout.com they are really fast, even though they are a little bit pricey, they have great support and pings. -Dennis $ilver 04-29-2003, 03:08 PM It would depend on where in the united states you are located, as that will effect your ping to different companies. In the east I'd reccomend www.gamingwarfare.com In the west I'd take a look at www.game-server-central.com gaming warfare works out of Donet.com while game-server-central is at xmission good luck. Ophelus 04-29-2003, 04:17 PM I would recommend that if ping where important.. you find some online servers and see if you can track down there owners (if it's not apparent) BTW I ping both those recommended sites awefull.. :( VeZoZ 04-29-2003, 05:27 PM Lots of things play factor other than country, where abouts are you looking for one? Obviously if you live in cali you don't want a ny one you want a cali obviously. Mrdredd 04-29-2003, 05:32 PM Actually, it more depends on for what purpose your buying it for. If you live in Cali, but most of your clan is in East coast, then you would want one in NYC... What region of the US are you looking for a server in? What game? CS? How many max players? Are you interested in how well customer support is? Are you willing to pay for quality? or do you just want a cheap priv server or something VeZoZ 04-29-2003, 05:37 PM You're the expert :) Oh don't forget the order form being secure some people prefer that dsappana 04-29-2003, 05:41 PM http://www.gamedaemons.net/ http://www.sg-servers.com/ They have several locations in Central and East (not sure about West). Awesome pings. I've seen many people get LAN pings if you're located near the server. Their servers are located in the NetFire DCs. http://www.laggyservers.com/ - Great pings from Canada, Central USA, East USA. dbbrock1 04-29-2003, 05:41 PM Originally posted by VeZoZ You're the expert :) Oh don't forget the order form being secure some people prefer that SOME people??? I think no one with a right mind will order through an unsecure order form. It's foolish to accept credit card numbers without a SSL cert. VeZoZ 04-29-2003, 10:20 PM Yeah I totally agree but I know some aren't as knowledgable. I don't know whats worse someone telling me they won't have their server hosted with anything below a oc192 or they beleive that one gameserver takes dual xeon's to run. I think a secure order form is a least of their worries dbbrock1 04-29-2003, 10:25 PM Originally posted by VeZoZ I don't know whats worse someone telling me they won't have their server hosted with anything below a oc192 These people have been mislead by other game server hosts claiming to have "oc-192" and "oc-256" when in reality, these are only used for internet backbones. Therefore they can't be directly connected to it. Although they may not be worried about SSL at the time, what are you going to do when they start accusing you for having their credit card info stolen? VeZoZ 04-29-2003, 10:34 PM Not much considering we use SSL. But I'm sure when their cc info gets stolen the host can lay blame elsewhere plus most use their parents cc so parents would be even more clueless. Mrdredd 04-29-2003, 10:52 PM Originally posted by VeZoZ I don't know whats worse someone telling me they won't have their server hosted with anything below a oc192 You know what I got today from a customer.. Him: What connection are you on? Me: we have a gige link to an OC192 backbone Him: wtf Me: what? Him: only an oc192? Me: ONLY an OC192??? Him: yeah, wtf thats slow this other company has a dual oc192, ur servers suk dik In reality, you dont even need a OC192, all you need is maybe an OC3 and still thats to much. Dmax 04-29-2003, 11:08 PM You know what, there isn't one company that has its own OC192 or even there own OC3 in the gaming industry. If a company has a GigE drop into its personal router that woudl be amasing (maybe artofwarcentral) but every other company has their own 100mb/s port or a 10mb/s port. If you listen to anything else you are being lied to. -Dennis Serious Sam 04-29-2003, 11:12 PM Um Dredd. You only need a 1 mbit connection for the best damn ping ever. Dunno why people don't understand that when the server company says "we offer 1 gig of ram", you're not really getting 1 gig of ram for just your server. Same with the bandwidth issue. Also I recommend; http://386-AOL-Windows95-Leet-Hosting.com Mrdredd 04-29-2003, 11:56 PM Um serious-sam, 1mb wont cut it when you have several servers. Im not talking about ONE measly server. Uh.. Dmax - Wickedservers has its OWN OC3. Dmax - we(DeviantServers.com) have gige drops into our routers and out to our OC192 backbones in all locations with 100mb links to the gige. Dmax 04-30-2003, 12:11 AM Mrdredd - What colocation or dedicated server companies do you use? You also say you have 100mb/s links which is what I am guessing your machines are hooked up to. It really doens't matter if you are hooked up to a 100mb/s port or a GigE port unless you are pushing over 65mb/s on a single port. When that happens you will need a GigE. serious-sam - A 1mb/s won't really cut it because a full 32 man pub will take up more than 1mb/s. If your host has over a 10mb/s connection or a single 10mb/s connection going to ONLY 1 machine you should have no problems with your ping. -Dennis Dmax 04-30-2003, 12:18 AM Wicked Servers uses the quality Verio network and is on their dual OC12 pipe that was from http://www.wickedservers.com/ournetwork.html It wouldn't be practical for a gaming company to purchase their own OC3 or anything other than a 100mb/s or GigE drop because pricing on a dedicated OC3 or OC12 is much steeper than just purchasing 155mb/s from a provider off a GigE or a couple 100mb/s lines. -Dennis Mrdredd 04-30-2003, 12:22 AM Ah, they upgraded. But at one point, they did have their own OC3 which they shared with BFG servers if im correct. BTW, they do more than game servers, they use the line for other things as well, that is how they justified the cost and speed as I see it Dmax 04-30-2003, 12:23 AM Yeah, BFG servers were good, I had a friend that used them. Mrdredd do you think you could send me a PM with the colocation facilities your company uses? I am interested, it seems like you have a wealth of information. Thanks -Dennis Mrdredd 04-30-2003, 12:35 AM Originally posted by Dmax Mrdredd - What colocation or dedicated server companies do you use? We have ports which have been logged at pushing ~85mpbs, most of the time it lays around ~50mb with average peak at ~60mb. our new machines with few servers on them push around ~2-20mpbs. Co-location facilities were PMed. lonelypilgri 04-30-2003, 02:56 PM Originally posted by dsappana http://www.gamedaemons.net/ http://www.sg-servers.com/ They have several locations in Central and East (not sure about West). My cs clan's server is hosted by them, but I hardly ever play on it, as I ping bad, also their a bit laggy, hence the name. lonelypilgri 04-30-2003, 02:59 PM btw, im in Vancouver, B.C. ThermoDust 04-30-2003, 05:51 PM Someone wanted a good pricing system.... http://artofwarcentral.com/default.asp?action=order&cmd=default compared to http://www.sg-servers.com/index.php?page=prices But, they aren’t the exact code so I guess that’s fine :) |
