Hello,

I remember a time that Tera-byte was one of the best webhost provider on the Net. Cheap hosting plan, lots of bandwith, good uptime and excellent support.

But that was then.

I have a site hosted with them that is always down. I don't think Tera-byte.com is what it used to be. I know they give good support, but what good does that do if your site is constantly down?

Just wanted you guys to know this.

I have a RaQ3 with them and for a while it felt like if their connection died every now and then. This would happen a few times a day and I would have a few friends try to load my page and they could either not connect or it would load really slow (maybe 0.1kb/sec). I ended up closing my account, but after a month I noticed they fixed that problem so I signed up again. As it is now, their connection is OK, nothing more, nothing less.

Tera-byte had problems with the 4webspace firewall which has been sorted and the uptime has been brilliant since. Can't speak for the virtual servers but one of the sites that i know off on a virtual server has very little downtime.

Customer service is still great and very fast. Their connections getting much better compare to last month.
Right now I am very happy with them.

While I am not completely sure about the timing, it did seem like their second firewall appeared just after the flakiness. I wonder if they were installing more bandwidth, and the transition to the additional lines did not go as smoothly as planned?

I think I would have to agree with you we are not what we used to be.
Always with a growing company there are going to be issues, I would have to say we have had our fair share of them as well.
I was always under the impression if I give the best in customer support and I have enough line speed ill grow and become successful, unfortunately that thought was based on my very limited knowledge of the technical issues related to doing what I do, and I was wrong.
running a large NOC has many issues that need to be looked at, dealt with, and looked at again. from the servers you use, to the firewalls and routers you keep the staff you employ and your backbone providers. I have had issues with most of these things, while I try to continually improve our noc your still going to have issues, attacks, hacks, cracks and most everything else that ends with CK.
yes we have had a number of problems on individual RAQ's failing with the onset of a new patch cobalt brought out (it filled the root partition, wiped out the password database the httpd.conf and a few other fun things), we have had issues with the firewalls, one firewall was underpowered (p-3 866 1 gig of ram running Unix). we have had issues with overloaded raq's or people that just don't know how to program in perl or php taking down a raq (shared hosting). these are all things a growing host needs to concern themselves with and if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't do things quite the same way, but without taking all the servers offline and starting over I have to change things slowly to avoid interruptions. So while I do agree with you that all the servers are not running as well as they should, I have to say the disruptions are minimal considering the extent of people we host (the average raq only houses 100 clients and I've never had more than one offline at a time) and while that may not help your site if your one of the ones being affected you can be assured that the problems associated with the server your on are being looked at and corrected as quickly as possible.

I have had a dedicated RaQ3 with them for a few months and have not noticed one second of downtime.

I appreciate their honest and reliable approach. At last I have found a decent, reliable, honest company, that doesn't refuse to acknowledge problems and hide when something goes wrong.
