Hi all,

I'm posting this because I'm looking for a dedicated server to start a hosting company. I have gotten a few good offers, but there is a small problem..

One of them is a lot cheaper if I use a lot of bandwidth, and the other is a lot cheaper if I use under 50GB/month.

Now I know that it is impossible to give an exact number on how much bandwidth a hosting server will be using per month. It depends on the accounts, users, etc. But I think this might still help me and others to get some kind of clue.

If you could maybe give average number of accounts and monthly bandwith usage, I would be greatfull.

Thank you.

It depends what you are hosting. If you are hosting adult sites I doubt the 50 GB will be sufficient. You also have to remember that FTP transfers ETC. ETC. count as bandwidth so if you have someone downloading stuff onto your server and sharing it with friends it can cost you a bunch of money in the long run. I would reccomend going with a company who sells actual bandwidth and not GB / month on servers. It is too easy for a company to fudge the amount of traffic that you did if they count it for you. When looking at bandwidth remember there is 8 bits in a byte and everything you see that is 100 kb/s = 100 Kilotbits /s = 20 KByte/s .... You can do your math from there (just help 1 MBit = 10 GB a day roughly)
