I came to webhostingtalk.com with a very unusual hosting need. I was looking for hosting for someone who could host a Macromedia Multi-user server for me for a game called First Star Online.
Unfortunately, I am not a big business...not a small business for that matter either. And the only people who I could find who could host that for me had plans that had tons of things I didn't need and were asking for hundreds of $ a month.
I had several people contact me with much more reasonable plans, but they didn't do their research and said "No way" when I told them about what i was really looking for.
I was just about ready to give up when I got an e-mail from Jason, who runs www.webhostinghub.com. I was about to ignore the e-mail, thinking that it was just someone else who didn't really know what I was asking for, but I decided to reply anyway.
I got a prompt reply to my message with an MSN screenname to contact. I did so. I told Jason what I needed, and to my surprise I got "No problem" as an answer.
My skepticism didn't end. I seriously didn't believe that someone could set something like this up for me. It has to be put in a special directory, is can't run on anything but windows, it requires that some unusual ports get opened...yea it's not pretty.
10 minutes later I get a reply saying "ok, try connecting to this IP", I enter the ip into the client...and I can't believe my eyes when it works perfectly.
Suddenly I realize that I never asked how much this is going to cost me...when I do I get $25 a month as an answer! I was expecting at least $100. I went for it right away!
A few weeks later I start experiencing a minor problem. I contact the developer of First Star Online and he replies that the server clock is probably running a little slow. I say ok and I decide to contact Jason just to ask him if that is in fact the problem, I'm not really planning on asking him to fix it since the developer is going to put a workaround for problems like this in the next version. Jason replies that the server clock is indeed running a little slow due to the MUS having a conflict with the VM it's running in, I tell him "Ok thanks," but he won't take that as an answer. He vows to fix it for me or put me on one of his main servers and run it outside of a VM.
A couple hours later I get a reply telling me that he thinks it's fixed. And when I check...It is!. I ask him "So what did you do to fix it?" and to my surprise he tells me that he wrote a custom program just for me to update the server clock with an atomic clock every 10 seconds. Talk about great customer service!
So if you're looking for a reasonably priced host that has great customer service and can probably meet your unusual needs www.webhostinghub.com is definitely someone to check out.
I give it a 10/10.
