call your providers support, at the Data Center level.

You need someone to manually reboot it and reset password.

I don't have $50 to pay them though. They want that.

I know, my partner is away right now and he handles the money of the business. :( anybody know how I can get it back via SSH?

Well,
You're going to have to wait for your partner or whoever is paying for the server to call the date center and get them to reset the password.

Besides 'rooting' your own server, you're really out of options if someone has changed the root password.

I'm just going to get $50 from someone and pay them.

You realize that you are going to have to backup all the sites and restore them on a fresh box don't you? If you just change the password back I guarantee it will be re-hacked within a day or two. If the cracker got in through one of your client's sites then this may keep happening even after you restore from a backup. For this reason, it is best to keep up with security in the first place to avoid a situation like this. I know that's not exactly what you need to hear right now  I feel your pain.. good luck and let us know what happens.

Thanks for the good luck because I'll be needing it. When I get the root back then I'll make sure to disable all SSH access and I'll make sure to get some patches. I need a miracle!

What can one say, if you let your box go without updates IT WILL BE HACKED!

This is the first time. We do update our servers and we install the security patches. We have no clue how this could have happened.

They are asking for $50 to retrieve my password. I don't have that, my partner handles the money and he's not here.

I assume any "Normal provider would Bill you for it, I would hope this is not holding you up..

If there is a Event of "not afording $50.00, i can`t imagine the server being too secure then. How much to unhack it and then or reinstall on a new system.

I try to work with clients, even allow them to pay over a period of time.

Not to be blunt or rude, but $50.00 is not alot of money.

Ya but $50 I don't have. There's a difference.

LOL - How can you not have $50? Certaintly you must have some sort of credit card or emergency funds you could use? Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

i made the horrible mistake of signing up with these idiots.

they will not refund my $15.00. Obviously $15 is nothing, but I have a feeling that it's a scam.

Considering the fact that Dynamix Hosting has been banned here. I just realized that they're the same owners. (after I was scammed.)

aingaran I was going to refund you the money today, but you want me to refund your money after this? I didn't refund it last night because I was just way too busy with this server issue. I paid the $50 and I'm recovering the password.

Aingaran, you're account is working perfectly fine, why are you complaining? It's just the root that's not working. I will have it back in my hands ASAP.

I might say look some cgi-scripts and make sure the webserver wasn't running as root. No amount of patching is going to make up for a badly written script. Though running it in a chroot might help..

Your server has been rooted, and you're telling people that their accounts are perfectly fine?

Wait...

My account is working fine?

Are you on some SARS medication?

YOU (the owner of the server) do NOT even control the darn server. How can you possibily say my account is working fine. How do you expect me to safe store ANY information at all on the server?

As far as the owners go...I made a paypal payment to '*****@rogers.com'

I went to whois.net and looked up the domain name d-ynamixhosting.com and this is what I found.

Why do you keep posting here? You're on my AIM. You're account was created and it was perfectly fine. Someone just changed the root password, it could have been someone I know as a joke but I'm not too sure about it.

Yes I took your paypal payment for now because I needed to see if you actually paid or not. My partner is away. I'm not going to dicuss this any further on here. You want to, then IM on AIM.
