I am interested in opinions about equitable internet access. This includes the ability to get web sites listed in search engines along with the current ability of web surfers to find relevent information being searched for.

Specifically, I see a problem for individuals and small organizations to make it possible for web surfers to find their websites without paying fees to get listed. If you are an individual, who would like to share ideas and information with others at no cost, would you be interested in paying a fee?

I am starting a group called the Equitable Internet Access Consortium where we will work out a plan to address these internet problems. To learn more please visit:

I am interested in discussing opinions and ideas on this topic.

Thank you.

Well, right off the bat I'd say that your group's name will cause confusion, since "internet access" is generally used to refer to how people connect to the internet. Reading the topic heading I assumed you'd be talking about dialup or DSL connections or something.

There are plenty off no-fee search engines. I don't see that small organizations or businesses have any unfair obstacles to being found, besides the fact that there are millions of websites out there yelling for attention.

When I created my first website, you didn't have to submit at all, and a crawler would likely find you within a week of going of online. The only obstacle I, as an individual, now have years later to having the same kind of success is all you other bozos getting in the way!

I agree with almost everything Jay said. Only a couple of the major search engines charge for listings, and only for businesses.

Under the circumstances, your group would have as much usefulness as udders on a bull.

Now, if you want to address the problems at dmoz in light of the fact that so many of the majors base their listings on the ODP, you might accomplish something worthwhile.
