Can I simply take a hard drive with RH8/whm/cpanel/websites/everything on it out of an older box and pop it into a brand new better computer?

I'm sure linux will go through the remove/add hardware wizard at the beginning, but will it screw up the installation/ip address/cpanel license/blah blah blah...

Thanks for the help,
Aaron

To the best I know, it won't screw up anything.

Just try:D

I have tried it and it does work, but make sure that you make a harddrive image backup, ghostcast maybe?

Make sure you put it in the right IDE configuration... like Make sure that it is on the SAME IDE Channel... same Spot on the Cable, and sometimes, it likes the other drives to be around too... even if you are only moving one drive.

if the hard disk contains a kernel that was compiled specially for the old hardware then you should first try to boot from a more vanilla kernel

I installed rh8 on a box that I built, and when the motherboard went bad, I went from Abit to another brand of motherboard, and rebooted. IDE channels were all the same, just different MB. The hardware detector found about 6 different items, but I was able to boot fine. I ended up reinstalling just to make sure I had a 100% stable system, but it was still fun to see that it would work.

good luck,
kevin

my bad, last time I switch hdd. I ghost an IDE to an SCSI and when i got the kernel panic, I edit the grub.conf to boot from /dev/hda to /dev/sda and it works. :D But I ended up reinstalling, too (better not regret..)
