Hi Hans,

Yes, the server will be yours for free after 20 months. You can either stay with us on a month-to-basis basis after that or just let us know where to send the server to you. As for our reseller program, the way it works is either through a referral or private label services. You're not required to purchase a server and any minimum amount of bandwidth from EFS. Simply refer a signed customers to EFS and we'll pay you a one time $50.00 USD referral fee and 10% of that customer monthly bandwidth usage. As for our private label services, this program is for resellers who can sell large amount of bandwidth via co-location (5000GB + each month) for EFS. Their customer's servers will be co-located in our data center and EFS will also remain completely anonymous. If you want to get a server with the commission, that is also possible. In this case, your monthly bandwidth fee is $269.00 (minus 10% resellers discount). The $50.00 referral check to yourself will be send to you after your server is up and running.

Thanks again for your time and consideration. To join our reseller program, go to http://resellers.efreeservers.com/agreement.htm. The service agreement is available online at http://www.efreeservers.com/legal.htm

For redhat, if you don't use that much of bandwidth, there are many host out there with a great price on their red hat dedicated server.

We are looking for their Windows 2000 server, the price is really hard to beat.

We use FreeBSD because of the stability and security it offers. Of course, the server is only as secure as the admin makes it. But it is known that Red Hat is probably the most exploited flavor of Linux out there. Most serious admins wouldn't use Red Hat as a main server of some sort, especially for security. Those who want to take the time to secure a Red Hat server usually succeed. Those who don't want to take that time usually choose some form of BSD, most often FreeBSD.

FreeBSD is being used by very large and major networks (does Hotmail run FreeBSD? I can't remember). I highly prefer FreeBSD over any flavor of Linux, just because of its organization and strength. It is also known that FreeBSD outperforms any flavor of Linux at various levels.

To some, the differences are very little. To others, the differences are very great. It just depends on how far you dig and what exactly your end expectations are.

I vote for FreeBSD. :) As for Plesk, I have no idea -- never used it. I make my own administration scripts.

what is the difference between FreeBSD and red hat?

I think one of the bigger differences is that FreeBSD is based on Unix and RedHat on Linux. FreeBSD has its ports which is awesome when you want to install anything new (you basicly choose from the list and select install now), RedHat has RPM packages. But from what I understand, there is a lot more help and programs for RedHat (not that there are few for FreeBSD).

I emailed them before asking what happens if I terminated before the 20 months period, and what if their company folds up.

They replied that in both cases, I will be bound be their contract to buy the server from them at the listed price.
(I deleted that email, but you can email them and ask them about this)

So I guess you should only go ahead if you're comfortable with the above.

I did however get a raq with them (for my own use, not for hosting). Uptime and network speed is good enough for me, I don't know about support since I didn't need any (yet).

here is the server ip: 64.157.92.104
and a 1mb file: 64.157.92.104/test/kyoko_f.zip

I'd be interested to hear how fast efreeservers is if you have some stats.

Thanks!
