Hello all,
I am kind of a newbie to this...I am a Web Designer up here in the Great White North...I have a client, who is an owner of a pretty large Dance club in Toronto.
He is aquiring about broadcasting LIVE DJ Sets via his website to listners sitting at home...
How do I go about this? My current Hosting Company, Hostway, does not support LIVE REAL AUDIO BROADCASTS  they recommend a dedicated server to handle this (that in turn can only handle 25 streams) ...I already know how to encode the music coming from the Dj mixer to Realaudio format, but to find a hosting company that can provide this service and at a great rate is qutie hard!!

how do radio company websites solve this?
I looked into SHOUTCAST, but how do I find a host that will allow me to install the SHOUTCAST plug-in?

I appreciate any help and thank you all in advance!!
d :D

PlayStream 1 50 MB 2 GB $24.00 Info | Order
PlayStream 2 100 MB 4 GB $45.00 Info | Order

Streaming takes up a lot of bandwidth. Depending on the quality of the stream, you can use up a lot of bandwidth very quickly. 25 users on a good quality stream (64kbps) would take up a full T1.

Your best bet may be to get a dedicated server that measures using ACTUAL data transfer.

Just something to keep in mind.

Hi Planet Z thanx for your your input...
ok. letz say I do propose a dedicated server to my client, can a dedicated server also host subdomains from my clients domain, what i mean by this is if my clients domain name is www.main.com , can he also have sub client of his own running off of his server? like www.submain.com and be directed to his server and get a different webpage all together?
I am assuming this can be done, but what Host do u know of provides this service?

thanx in advance...
d:)

I'm not quite sure, but if you are planning on live webcasts of music, there is expensive software that you need for your server. If not, a lot of hosts are able to server Real Media files

Anywho, the redirection is possible, whether the host of your domain register does it.

phantom, you should also check out The Stream Guys (http://www.streamguys.com/). One place they host is BassDrive (http://www.bassdrive.com) who has great uptime, and very fast streams.

I myself am thinking about joining them too.
