creid 06-23-2001, 03:25 PM that sounds like a really good deal!:D
Dogma 06-23-2001, 07:34 PM I can say that Aletia is a VERY good and reliable host. They have great, fast support, and since they switched to NAC.net (where Site5 is I think..) the uptime has been great. With just a little downtime.

So, why I couldn't access the site now? Happened to be the "little downtime"?
I am on cable and I didn't have a connection problem to other sites.

Dogma 06-24-2001, 01:22 AM yes, aletia is down right now and this is the first time since the move to NAC.net (according to my experiance and uptime checker service thingy.)
timbo 06-24-2001, 04:51 AM Cool - they are back up now :)
Mark Vockler 06-24-2001, 05:11 AM Sorry the machine that our site was on was down and had to be rebooted. It should be okay now.

Crushix 06-25-2001, 09:09 AM Wow, nice deal there. But why do you have to make us pay $5 per sub-domain? added. so u say we are allowed to have 20 but it will cost us $5 for each one to be setup. :(
tecton 06-25-2001, 09:27 AM you seem quite excited...
does that not happen often?

it is $5 per every sub domain beyond the alloted amount. So you can have up to 20 for free, for every sub after 20 you pay $5

The $5 per subdomain applies to those setup after the first 20, which are free.

I think the 20 subs are included and you can add them for free. But for extra ones, you have to pay.
I think Mark may come here to clarify it.
ebird
timbo 06-25-2001, 03:05 PM The first 20 sub-domains ARE free - it's if you want any more then that you pay $5 per additional one! ;)
Just wanted to let everyone know that I got this account yesterday and the support was just great. If they can continue this they are a great host.
Please note that I have had this account for less than 24 hours and this should not be taken as my general opinion of the host :)
jough 06-26-2001, 06:21 PM Hey Mark,
Can Aletia sub-alias domains to sub-directories of the main account transparently, while also providing e-mail for the other domains?
Of course, for $10 a month I could probably just get an account for each of my domains, but of course I already have that and am looking to consolidate my domains into a single account on the back-end to make it easier to update everything...

Yes, these are known currently as multi-hosted domains, and point to subdirectories within your main account transparently (without your visitors knowing it).
You can receive email via multi-hosted domains, but they're all automatically forwarded to your main POP account at your main domain (which shouldn't matter if you're the owner of all the various multi-hosted sites). In other words, multi-hosted domains don't come with their own POP accounts.
You'll find some more detail about multi-hosted domains at:
http://AletiaHosting.com/hosting/multipledomains.html
If you need more info, let me know.

Kevin Teoh 06-27-2001, 05:22 PM wow! thanks!
ebird 06-27-2001, 06:09 PM But that's for new domains only, right?
If this is true, I don't get it. If I have an existing domain, and I want to have an annual plan with you, why not deduct the $9.95 from the annual plan, since anyway you pay $9.95 for a new plan and the same amount of money for existing domains.
Just my $.03. (1.5 times larger than $.02 :D )
ebird
Kevin Teoh 06-27-2001, 06:14 PM then wouldn't that be them paying you 2 dollars every month :)

The free domain name is an extra bonus for clients on annual billing, it's not "built" into the annual fee so it can't be deducted if the offer is not taken up.
However, what we can do for you, if you have an existing domain, is help you initiate the transfer of your domain to our domain registrar at no additional charge.
This will:
1) Extend your domain registration by a year from its current expiry date; and
2) Allow us to renew your domain at no additional charge every year, for as long as you're on annual billing.
This would usually cost you $9.95/year (domain registration and renewal) if you're a client who's on monthly billing.
There's some fax paperwork to initiate the transfer of your domain over to our registrar, but once we've gotten that in, the annual renewals are processed automatically and free of charge.

ebird 06-27-2001, 06:53 PM HI Mark,
Thanks for the quick reply. One more question to clarify the domain offer.
Let's say, I have a domain which expires in May 2002.
I pay annually for the hosting plan and change the registrar to your choice, my domain is good till May 2003, even if I may end up hosting with you in July 2002 (since I will start hosting my site now)
Is this correct?
This is my last question here for your offer. :)

Glad to have you with us, johnnycs. :)
Just send an email to support@aletia.net requesting that your domain be transferred to our registrar (which is currently eNom), and we'll send you the appropriate instructions. Remember to include your domain name, account IP, username and password for verification.

pootp 06-29-2001, 03:13 AM Will there possibly be another special for July similar to this one, or closer to the bigger plans?
lucasg 06-29-2001, 06:44 AM hey there...
I've just been burnt by a host...
and recovered a bit of my money back just today
so the last thing I want to do is rush in...but the offer does sound tempting...
what I'd like to know...is:
what happens if I go over the limit?
(e.g. - can I just have access cut off, rather than paying for additional bandwidth?)
and, is the monthly billing recurring?
(can I disable this?)
could you please email me the info too, because my net connection (despite being broadband) has just stuffed up -damn australia & telstra :(
Anyway, thanks....
Lucas
lucasg 06-29-2001, 09:43 AM well...after 10 minutes of careful consideration - I'm a member :)
lol - I hope I haven't rushed into something again ;)
well I'm sure I haven't!
I just spoke to a rep in real time over aol - and without even having accessed my account - let me just say that this service looks great!

If you go over the limit, the account is automatically suspended so you don't pay for additional data transfer without knowing beforehand. You can monitor bandwidth usage via the control panel so if you'd like to increase it in advance just send an email to us at support@aletia.net.

Monthly billing is done automatically. However, you can cancel at any time and subsequent billing will not be performed.

There's some fax paperwork but yes it's possible to transfer it over from register.com to our registrar. If you're on annual billing for your hosting account, we'll pay for your domain renewals so you save on the $35/year that you're currently paying.

Due to popular demand, we are letting the special continue for a little while, so you can still access it via the original promotional link:
http://AletiaHosting.com/?discount=wht
Also, we are doing a soft-launch of the new Aletia Community Forums (AletiaForums.com) (http://AletiaForums.com/), where you'll be able to ask pre-sales/support questions, interact with clients and view the latest announcements. Let us know what you think of it.
