I was wondering if it's possible for a reseller to have resellers , and how would you manage them?

You are so right old friend... :D The only time it seems to work OK is when a 'knowledgeable' and 'professional' reseller has clients who are, say for example, web designers.... these designers often want the ability to set up their own customer accounts and so a level of management afforded by a 'resellers reseller' interface can work to advantage.. BUT, for those who seek to set up a reseller account and then attempt to have resellers themselves to either; 1. pretend that they are bigger than they are, or 2. maximise income by having others do the selling beware.. it rarely works out like that. First, a host offers resellers account at a discount because he has to spend less time dealing with customer support... this is the resellers job (other than the obvious server related issues etc that the host supports for the reseller) This of course means that a resellers reseller will have to buy plans at a much higher rate and then will find that they can't be competitive... On support... the chain of requests from customer to resellers reseller to reseller to host can be a little unwieldy sometimes and will not always give the customer the best service.. Unless the reseller has the discipline to keep his records in order, it will also be a mess trying to keep track of all the accounts and who owns them... this may seem simple, but I assure you I have seen some cluster****s. Zolbian is mostly right (99%) ... but there are situations which it may be useful for this situation to be allowed.. Cheers.. Nigel 06-23-2001, 11:42 AM This actually reminds me of when I first started out in web hosting. I started only offering the retail packages while reselling for OLM. I then got a bit more knowledgeable (not that you have to be when you're a reseller) and started the reseller program but I can't remember who that was but the point is, that's how we have grown so well. Our resellers do all the dirty work such as getting the customers and giving them the face to face contact that I didn't want to be doing all the time. It's the web developers of the site that usually makes the decision of where to host the site too hence that's why we target web developers. We've now got about 50 resellers and over 500+ web sites running right now. Resellers seem to be the best way to increase your web site base without spending heaps of advertising dollars. I say go for it and offer the reseller package. |
