The site will have about 30 pages - and expect 5k visitors per month with some fancy graphics.

How much bandwidth should I be looking for ?

10-15g or nearer 50g per month ?

2 pagesx5000hitsx120kb=1.2GB?

My maths might not be very good...

30 pages
100 kb per page
5000 visitors

30X100X5000 = 15gB per month

30 pages x 5,000 visitors . Well, as for the bandwidth you require would depend on how big each page is.

Assuming that each page with graphics is 100kb then you need :-

30 pages x 100 kb x 5,000 visitors = 15,000,000 kb of bandwidth or
15gb/mth (roughly)

they're not going to visit all thirty pages are they? My estimate is the "2" in the above calculation...

True but it is better to take the highest traffic level and not to estimate the minimum because it is easy to breach the lowest 2 pages per visitors than to reach the highest. Having redundancy is better than having to worry if the minimum is reached.

I like the tool you can find here:-

I agree, they aren't going to visit all the pages, but 2 is really optimistic. 5-6 clicks, which means at least 5-6 page views, could be more reasonable. But always if somebody wants to be without worries, targetting the max possible data transfer, is the best way (or a plan tha gives you affordable purchase of extra data transfer)

It's an impossible question. I have 1100 visitors a day (33000 visitors a month, app.), a lot of pages with a lot of images ... I only use between 14 - 19 gb data transfer (bandwidth is a different story!) ... you say you expect to get 5000 visitors a month ... based on your content, I'd say you need 3 - 5 gb data transfer BUT it is always smart to get an account that enables you to grow in the future. Maybe start with a host with 10gb and see if you can easily upgrade it to a larger account.

It would be almost an impossibility for someone who was not familar with the site to click all 30 pages - unless the structure was trivial or it had terrific navigation.

And remember that the 2nd page will likely take less bandwidth 'cos the images that make up the template, header, footer, etc will be cached by the browser/proxy...

just start with 10GB and make sure the host allows you to upgrade easily anytime, or allows you to pay by overage (a reasonable price of cost and not 10$ per GB or similar)
