has anyone ever had to deal with a situation like this:

brand new shell account, on a brand new domain..
sending and recieving mail, configured everything all nice.. it was working fine and dandy. using PINE cus im stubborn and i love it.

i accidentally logged into the "webmail" system, and now it is dumping all my new mail into a text file in my mail directory. i dont see this file on any of my other shells elsewhere. Pine is not able to retrieve or see any new messages. However i can send mail just fine, and the new emails *ARE* arriving - they are just being dumped into a file.......

anyone know what i broke?
they tried blowing out my account and resetting it, but i think it has something to do with the mail server?
but i am by no means a techie.

thanx for any and all input..

mike

ps- i didnt know where to put this thread so i tossed it here......

Hmmm it could be a number of things.

The easiest to fix would be if it was forwarding it through something. Check your home directory for a .forward file and see if there's anything in there. You can also try to do a finger username and see if it says your mail is being forwarded anywhere.

nope, no weird .files.. nothing weird in my .pinerc file.
the only difference i see is that there is a file on the 'broken' shell called "inbox" where all the new mail is getting dumped.
is the problem possibly that its being dumped somewhere and not retained? (attempting to sound like i have any clue)

thank you :D

It could be a multitude of things, then. Not sure if anyone else has any other specific suggestions. Your best bet is to contact your host and have them check things out again. Webmail programs all work differently so it's hard to say how the one that the server you're on uses works.
