I am starting up soon and here's how i have worked it out so far. I may drop the space down in each plan.should I? i may oversell by increasing bandwidth amounts. should I?
My plans will be:
100mb-1gig----$3
300-3 ----$6
700-7 -----$14
2gig-20gig ----$30
I am concerned that these may be too large for my startup. I will be targeting smaller ecommerce sites and maybe personal sites also. Thanks

I think your stretch between 700/7GB and 2GB/20GB is too far.. Maybe add something like 1000-1250MB/15GB or something close to that to keep your plans in a closer range as going from 700/7GB to 2GB/20GB is quite a jump and alot of people may not be able to justify having to pay for 20GB when they only need 10-15.

For gods sake charge reasonable prices. I just love to see people that have gotten a reseller package, built a site in a weekend and then offer packages with a TB of storage and 4TB of transfer for like $2.95 per month!

Take a look at what other hosts who have been around for a bit are offering. Then go to the web hosting requests section and see the requests and then the offers that are being made back. They will crack you up.

But it wasnt against you it was just a remark in general. Dont fall into being one of those guys that will sell the world for a buck.

The first two plans are great if you want to lose money and work for free. Those first two plans are never going to scale and you will be stuck working 24/7 365 days per year. Get your prices after doing a quality business plan which includes looking at your competition, salaries, costs, overhead, support, etc.

Realisticly, I would charge at least $19.99/month for ecommerce/business sites. These type of sites need true 99.9% uptime, reliable hardware, and daily backups.

If you want to have a decent living and do hosting full time, you need to make at least $5000 per month before expenses. This is 1666 $3/month plans or 250 $19.99/month plans. It's easier to get the 250 higher cost plans.

I wish i could do a site in a weekend, i've spent the last two weeks designing our site and still not finished. and have just asked for general review in the review forum. got good and bad feedback, but i have decided to start from stratch.

mpalamar- i appreciate your 2 cents but with my first two plans i charge 2 2/3 my price.
167% profit.
This is before support, advertising, etc. but my preliminary estimates for these costs will leave much room for profit.
