Hello there,
I have a AMD 1Gig with 512 Ram, 2 x 40.1Gb hard drives (IBM) and 2 x 10Gb IBM HD's.
ASUSCOM ISDN adaptor, 3dfx3000 graphics card, scsi plextor reader and writier.

I have currently service pack 1 installed on my computer however when i update to service pack 2, i can get into windows, log in, then once on the desktop it just reboots the machine. No error or explanation. Has anyone else had this problem? I need to know because i had to downgrade from sp2 to sp1 after this and it has really made my machine so unstable.. its unbarable.

Any ideas?

Regards

Craig

Hi there,

I have heard that many people had had problems with the SP2 package, such as the one that you had.

If your computer is very slow and un-stable, I'd recommend that you reinstall Windows 2000 (or NT?), that's about the only thing that you could do.

Good luck, and post here with your results.

Ok. well i did a complete reinstall.
I bought a new hard drive in the end, i think the raid array broke down.. So a nice new IBM :o)
Working a charm at the moment.
I was holding my breath when installing service pack 2 however, once it booted ok i was in heaven. hehe.

just out of intrest is FAT better than NTFS in Win2k Pro?

The reasons i can only think FAT is better is for the simple reason that you can get into your disks if there's an emergency.

Hi,

I am a newbie to this forum, but I just thought I post regarding your message.

I believe Win2K will run faster on NTFS 5.0 partition. FAT16 is fast but I think MS tuned Win2K more for NTFS. Besides, the cluster size in FAT16 becomes very large as the partition size grows. So you would be wasting alot of disk space.

Just don't use FAT32, this is slowwww.
