View Full Version : How do I cancel my account with Aletia?
StarGhost 04-22-2003, 09:51 PM Can someone please tell me how to cancel my account with aletia? I've been trying now for 2 weeks. I put in three support tickets. And now I just got my mastercard bill a few days ago and yet another charge on it from them. How do I cancel my account with them??? They won't return my emails. They use their own merchant too. I may have to just call my CC company and have them block all charges from them, but my CC company charges for that.
Please help. And also, NO ONE go with Aletia.com. In the past 3 weeks, i've moved all my sites to a new host, cause they were down over 50% of the time. I heard it was cause they were being attacked and stuff, but IMO, they are a shady company. Even if they are being attacked, and there is nothing they can do about the downtime, they should let their customers know about it, and put a big notice or press release on their site. Instead, they keep accepting new hosting subscriptions, don't answer their tickets, promote censorship in their forums and lose customers, like me.
But putting that aside, please help me cancel my account. I don't want aletia to get any more of my money. Damn thiefs.
Annette 04-22-2003, 10:00 PM Aletia was purchased by Jaguar (jaguarpc.com). You might want to contact them for assistance.

I can confirm the above and I sympathise.
As the follow up inferred, Aletia were taken over by JaguarPC last year.

Ouch. You may need to weigh your options and see which is less. Most CC companies will go to bat for you in regards to this type of matter.
Best of luck to you.

(This is not to be critical of any company mentioned below!)
I can relate to your experiences. I left Aletia, just 2-3 months prior to JaguarPC buying them out. That was (IMO) the only reason I *finally* got my refund from them (AletiaHosting that is), but it still took a month after the buyout.
None the less, sounds like the same Aletia I had experiences with, just under a new owner.
As for your situation, what I suggest you do is this:
1- First contact the payment processor and terminate your recurring billing from their database with them. Not sure who they use now, but this is what I had to do. The processor was very quick to oblige my request, and courteous about it.
2- If support is not replying to your termination request, send an email to anyone you can find an addy for... whether it be with Altetiahosting or JaguarPC. Request a refund from the initial date you requested your account be terminated. You are entitled to it.
3- Even though communication is poor with them, be persistant, but be as polite as possible. (I wasn't and it didn't help matters)
4- Use the chargeback as a last alternative. You can always file a complaint with the BBB in which ever state they are registered in.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks Shoney. The biggest problem is, Aletia uses JaguarPC's own merchant account now. I think they did this so they can scam people. They used to be with PaySystems, which protected the consumer, but now they use their own merchant account and IMO once they get your credit card they don't let go and keep charging it forever. I will do what you said and email everyone. I sent alot of tickets, but obviously they don't go anywhere. I wonder, does anyone have a phone number for them? Or does JaguarPC have a phone number?
Southernman 04-23-2003, 02:25 PM No problem StarGhost....
As for getting JaguarPC's numbers, you can go to any registerar and run a whois on both company names. I would do it for you and post the information here... but I don't think thats very kewl, regardless of the situation.
You can also search the forum here, for the member 'Jag,' which is the owner of JaguarPC... then send him a quick PM asking for his help.

That's what I would suggest. Jag's a pretty good guy from all accounts and should be able to help you out. The billing issues seems to be quite an ongoing one for them though, and I certainly hope they manage to work on their system.

Um, be careful with your wording please. We did nothing so we can "scam" people. We simply dropped paysystems, which was only being used by aletia, and never used by jaguar. Paysystems has got to be the biggest joke of a processor I have ever dealt with.
If its been a few days and you havent heard back by all means pm or email me and let me know. I think a the most common mistake is clients tend to open support tickets to cancel sites. Its very visibly posted in our aup to contact sales. Our techs do their best to forward sales issues from the ticket system but with the volume of clients we have its easy for a sales issue to get lost in the support queue. Techs do not have any authority to close accounts.
Well, its something we need to address no doubt . If you've sent an email though and its not answered yet, thats something that should not happen and I want to check on.
