I am no longer tech support for anyone...my reasons are my own(and by my choice) finding a host is a truly frustruating experience..its because of my policy of honesty that Im even posting it here.

Sooooooooooo Im back to being a private user just like everyone else :)

Just to keep the topic alive.
Veoweb hasn't responded to my emails or support tickets since I sent them in starting Monday 8/14.

That might be for one of 2 reasons 1 the new support method has a big bug in it and emails go poof 2 because the main tech is on vacation.

Im really sorry your going through this your not alone...I was kept from accessing the server which ment 80% of the requests I couldnt help with.

Yes I can understand the vacation part but I believe even my account has an autoresponder. LOL
I run a one-man operation here and am planning on being "outta pocket" for a while in the near future. But have already wrote my autoresponder message.
Still curious about the "honesty" thing.

I agree with you...I replied to your email I think (searches her memory) I am not willing to bash a host on the board. I can say that all the problems and such that I had with my personal domains have disappeared since I moved them :)

Dana,

Might I ask what hosting service you now use? (I'm one of the zillions out here doing my research for, not a good one but *great* one.)

Thanks.

Yea Annette is at the top of my short list.
Like I said in my email, I have been following a few boards for a while and she seems to be up front (honest) with whatever is being discussed. Anyway thanks again for your input Dana and Good Luck.

LOL See Above. Finding a host is been just an ...ARRRRG!!!! experience this last time really hurt because I thought I had landed in the right place. I know with Annette that she will always be upfront and honest...and to me honest is the only way to go :)

Thank you. She has moved onto my short list as of last night, and I'm currently running ping tests, etc. on her site. Which only tells one so much....unfortunately we can't know for sure until we choose one, get the site up, and then see how well and how fast it performs, AND how much the host cares once we're their customer.

It's like they know how much hassle it is to move a site once it's up on their servers....
I recently got DSL at home. I did my research, tried to choose the right company, and ended up going with Flashcom because they guaranteed (!) a particular speed. Well, once it was installed, I wasn't getting the speed they promised (surprise, surprise). Then they tell me that they don't promise any speed, only a minimum. So the customer service rep I was dealing with just simply lied. Long story short, I am now getting the speed I was promised (after a lot of hassle and expressed anger at them). But their customer support *once* you're a customer becomes crappy. They don't respond to problems until numerous calls and emails. <sigh>

If only I could look into the future with these service providing companies.... :)

For me moving my domains was realllly easy because they are from register.com My domains were resolving for me in just a few hours once I saw how easy register.com was I moved my one InterNIC domain to them ...now Im InterNIC free *G*

Let me tell you a little story about Annette my friend Emily registered a domain from her and bought a hosting plan Emily made a mistake(during sign up) which caused a problem with the IP Annette bent over backwards to help Emily even offered to refund her the money (which Emily turned down because she knew it was her error) As of tonight Emily's domain is resolving and she is very happy.

Thats client care :)

My advice is to stay FAR FAR AWAY from hosting matters.

It is a one-man operation, and she has committed many fraudulent activities. She is currently under investigation for fraud and other criminal activity by the US authorities. The server she rents is also going to be shut down due to inability to pay server bills.

DO NOT GO NEAR HOSTING MATTERS!!! IT IS A SCAM!!!!

I've moved over a couple of my domains over to HostingMatters for a couple of weeks now and I can safely say that Annette provides excellent service, answers all my questions in a timely and friendly manner, and goes out of her way for clients.

One Friday night we exchanged multiple emails from 11PM-2AM when I was installing some mySQL applications and having problems. Annette was VERY helpful. This is not what you would get anywhere else.

Ignore Davey and his rants. We've seen them elsewhere and for as newbie on this board, I'm tired of them already.

HostingMatters is a fine hosting company to do business with.

Yea felt it only fair to post on the board that the problem was resolved. Hmmm will comment on the "happy" part at a later date. HEHE. Being a forgiving and lighthearted individual I understand things don't always happen as I want them. (Or when) ;)
Thanks Dana for your concern and best of luck!

Davey, don't you see that all you do is strengthen her business. The more you post this junk, the more people defend her and the more people want to give her a shot, so I say keep it up. Better yet, bash my business a little while you are at it.

Mike, I was thinking the same thing. Seems like Davey is the best thing that could have happened to Annette! Sure, she has to spend a little time replying to him, but in every thread where he appears the end result is people trying Hosting Matters' service.

Hmmm... makes me wonder if there really is a "Davey"... has anyone ever seem him and Annette in the same room together? :)

Ohhhh Hes real LOL and so is Annette after everything he put her through when *she* was *his* client you would think she would be bitter ..nope she handles him with grace.

Re: Davey helping Annette's business my feeling is kinda sorta but not really..and Im sure thats not what he indended...With his reviews if he was to say "My Company like Hostmatters.com" that would make people think :P

Well from this little black ducks point of view, after seeing hostmatters name mentioned so often in this forum the name stuck and I checked them out. Stephanie has been super helpful so far and has been outpacing the email responses of BOTH Dreamhost and addr.com 4 to 1. I have a pretty sticky domain transfer issue that I'm sure hostmatters is going to fix for me in no time. The simple fact of dealing with someone (and the SAME someone) from email to email is a great change of pace. As for them being a 'one man operation'... *yay* I've personally had a gutful of huge webhosts that bounce my email around a hundred different no-nothings and generate the same cut and paste responses, most of which don't even answer my question! Even should I go elsewhere eventually I'll stand up and vouch for hostmatters.com from one day of service from them.

Oh, if I'm supposed to be an employee of them as *someone* keeps saying these positive responses are, feel free to check my IP address. For a 'scam' they'd be going to a lot of trouble to fly out here to Australia and post to a forum. *lmao*

I agree its nice not to have to explain your situation over and over again..I had a host that I liked called Cedant.com the one thing that bothered me about them was they never signed their emails no names so you never knew who you were talking to. I spoke to them several times about this I felt like they knew my name address phone and credit card # all I wanted was a first name *G*
