First of all, my experience in hosting management equals 0. I just ask for curiosity.

Let's say I own a domain and a connection that could allow me to make my pc a server.
how could I host the domain on my server? what are the technical steps to do that?

thanks

Aloha,
well the fisrt thing you would want to have is a static IP if ya can get one to point your domain at and set it up with a service like mydns.com

make sure ya have some security or files you do not care about on your home computer as you will be exposing it in a new fashiop to the interenet

not sure what kind of connection you have ??? but I would not try to host anything big on a home connection
just playing around it is fun to do though ;)
you might want to also check on a few freee hosting services geocities type if you want to actually host a small web page etc.. of yours
so really depends on what you want to host and that your ISP knows that you want to do this so if you get some bandwith coming through they do not disconnect you.
best of luck sure others will have more info

lol, no, I do not want to host anything on my pc. Also because I only have ISDN. That was just for curiosity.

this is what I was interested in. But maybe more in depth. ok, as I have a dial-up connection I don't have a static IP address. but supposing I had one(maybe with cable or greater), I would have a static IP.

myDNS.com(alias mydomain.com) is a domain redirrection service(correct me if Im wrong). I was trying to understand how does real domain hosting works. Now, I know that most servers host more domains and actually they do not point all the domains to the server's ip. Practically, how can be a domain setted up to be hosted on a server?

Aloha
ahh OK
well actually not all adsl give ya a static IP I had to request one

as far as all domains go you can host off one IP which a lot of sites do all the time (name base hosting)

well you would need to have a computer set up to handle name server lookups so something like mydns is actually not just s redirect but a true name server
the IP on the server

to explain the other
try these links:

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/vhosts/name-based.html
http://webcompare.internet.com/webbasics/

the webcompare has a lot of good articles about serving and servers to read
