To summarize what has happened so far (in chronological order):
- November 21, 2000
Hostsave charged my Visa $79.23 for 1 year of service on my domain
- June 6, 2001
I received an email from billing@hostsave.com stating that my current billing cycle had ended and that the Visa on file could not be charged. I sent a reply stating that this bill was incorrect along with the the Visa number and transaction information (sale/post date and transaction number). Since I recently closed that [Visa] account I added a MC (MasterCard) number to my billing information (via www.hostsave.com/cp)
- June 8, 2001
I received an email from billing@hostsave.com stating that my MC was charged $20.85. I replied by stating (again) that my account was "up to date" and that a credit of $20.85 needed to be issued.
- June 11, 2001
[HS accounting person] sent me an email stating that indeed my account is paid until November 2001 and she was issuing a credit of $41.70 (I sent an email saying the credit should have been for $20.85). 25 minutes after [HS accounting person's] emailed I received an email from support@hostsave.com saying that they had received my request to cancel my account. No such request was ever made. Domain goes down overnight. Email bouncing.
- June 12, 2001
I send an email to billing and support stating that my web site has been removed, email is bouncing and I can't log in the control panel. Five hours later I call Affinity (HS's parent company) and begged to speak with someone to correct their error. I'm told that they don't speak with HS customers (email support only ). After repeated calls their accounting supervisor (a very nice women). She spoke with me and agreed to assist. I did receive a call from someone at HS saying that she'd "looking into" the problem. My domain is still down.
- June 13, 2001
Email received from billing on someone else's account explaining HS's reinstatement policy. My domain is still down.
- June 14, 2001
Domain back up but had to upload all files. Sent email to billing explaining that their "Control Panel" still showed incorrect billing information (another ~$20 due on 07/01) and a credit still needed to be issued concerning the billing error.
- June 20, 2001
Email (finally) received from billing. They said I had to reenter my CC# to my billing information before a credit would be issued. No mention about not billing me again on 07/01. Replied that I removed my CC# to avoid another billing error. CC info sent in email.
- June 21, 2001 (today)
No credit has been issued for the billing error. According to their "control panel" I'm still going to get billed ~$20 on 07/01. No apology ever offerred for taking my site down.
Also, most of the emails concerning the site being down were also sent to their support department. Too bad they never responded to one of them.
Please note my site had only a few pages as it is used mostly for email (maybe 5 a day). I had been a satisfied and paying customer of Hostsave for over a year until this mess. I've advised my clients (17 of them, all using HS) of these problems and advised them that it's time to leave HS soon. 17 out of the 47k sites Affinity hosts is nothing, but hopefully others will learn from this saga ...
BTW, Aletia Hosting took less than 5 hours to me setup in their system (I did sign up at 10pm). If all goes well (and I have no reason to expect anything else) I'll move my clients over to them.
Is it me or am I justified in being pissed off?
