How about OpenBSD for the OS of a webserver used to offer shared hosting accounts?
I know it's a one CPU OS. What do you see as the advantages or disadvantages over another OS you may be more familiar with or perfer.
I don't see OpenBSD offered too much for shared hosting. Wondering why.
Thanks for you input!!

Not to much software thats written for it. Are there even any control panels that will run on it seamlessly?

OpenBSD can only use one CPU, I thought it could use more then one like FreeBSD.. Thats something new I had never heard..
While OpenBSD is arguably the most secure of the BSD family, it doesn't have the software support FreeBSD does. Unless you want to go with Webmin or write your own CP, I'd go FreeBSD.

Thanks everyone. The reason I'm thinking about OpenBSD is because of security concerns.
It seems most folks feel the lack of a popular control panel is one of the major reasons not to choose OpenBSD for shared hosting.
What would the best solution for a "control panel" if one were to use OpenBSD for shared hosting? Do you think customers would be OK with it...or would one just be asking for a customer support "overload"?
Thanks again,
Louis

Why not just properly secure a FreeBSD box?

Any box can be secured as tightly as an OpenBSD box.
Windows, Redhat, FreeBSD or anything. Its possible to do.

I use OpenBSD for my home firewall system, runs nicely...i think the uptime is about 1 year.....
I would definately use it has a virtual hosting platform if there was a cp made for it.
