Hello,

I have some websites that produce some small income but I want to invest some money (not very much) to obtain more traffic on them in the hope that I can make enough profit from them to pay for my MSc and PHD studies. (I hope I can.)

Anyway for start I guess it should be better to invest small amount of money on Inktomi and other paid search engine submissions.

1- Is Inktomi always good and makes good results? One of my websites produces 2 signups for each 1000 visitors (each at $20). Its a computer educational web site.

Do you think it worths it? Will it produce enough traffic to boost my sites? Is it possible to have an estimate of the traffic which I will get?

2- How much will listing last? (when site will be removed from list after submission? Is it 1 year?)

3- How about google per click ads? Does it have considerable performance?

I have asked JAYC to look at this thread and tell his idea and I wish he may help.

By the way there was a thread (about 1-1.5 years ago) which JAYC introduced some Inktomi resellers but I can not find it now.

Also I remember there was a similar list of search engines in another list which was arround the price of Inktomi submissions. Anyone remembers it?

Regards,
Mac

One thing to keep in mind about Inktomi right now is that Yahoo just bought them. So while it's unclear what that might mean in the future, there's a chance that Ink's database might start showing up again at Yahoo, which would make inclusion there more valuable. Personally, I'm not so sure that will happen at least anytime soon -- so MSN remains the main source of Inktomi traffic.

The Inktomi resellers are listed here: http://inktomi.com/products/web_search/submit.html -- but I'm replying to your PM with some other information about getting into Inktomi that I can't talk about here. :)

For other places that cost around the same amount, you might be thinking of either AltaVista or FAST, both of which offer similarly structured paid inclusion programs in addition to their free spidering.

1) There's no guarantee that anything is "always good" and always has good results. But Inktomi inclusion is relatively inexpensive in comparison to other advertising options, and depending on how many pages you pay for if your average sale is $20 you'd make it up pretty easily. Positioning is important in Inktomi, though, as it is everywhere else.

2) Yes, it's one year. After that the pages will be removed unless you renew.

3) Absolutely. Of course it depends on the market you're in and it takes some work and management to stay efficiently placed in Google AdWords -- but it can be very effective.
