I have a music web site. The actual site consist of only a few pages (10 max), but also have around 50 mp3's that visitors can stream from my site. I currently get around 100-200 visitors max, but I have been holding back on promoting because I knew I only had 2gb data transfer. If I promote, I can probably increase my visits by 50-100 percent. Lets say the average visitor listens to 5-10 of my 50 songs on average.

I know asp, but dont plan on using it. If anything, I will maybe (that is a small maybe) use php and mysql on my site.

What kind of hosting do I need? What platform, about how much space, data transfer, etc. What else should I look for or ask when searching for a good host?

If you are not going to use ASP, then just choose a straightforward UNIX host. I would recommend you get a plan with about 300-500gb space and 10gb data transfer. That will give you plenty of room to grow as you promote your site. :)

hehe i think he must mean 300-500mb space since no host will give you 500gb you will need multiple dedicated server for that :) So long as the MP3s are leigt should be able to use any host that dont specifically ban MP3s as a whole

You may also want to
1. Ask for a speed test due to the need for files downloads
2. Look for a host with flexible upgrading plans.

isnt 500 GB 1/2 of a terrabyte(sp?) if so im not all that amazed because all youhave to do is put 2 250gb hd's in your server to get 500 GB
