If a domain name's about to drop, is there anyway to automatically register it taht is recommended (except for namesnap) or should I just go and register them myself.
The reason I ask this is because everytime I'm about to get a good expired domain, it drops while I'm asleep, typical.. this has happened the past four times and I'm concerned that I'm missing up some good opportunities to register these.

I remember a recent thread on this, maybe a quick search will give you some results?
i remember somebody charging to monitor a domain for you and snapping it up for you when it expires.

when the domain is about to expire it will tell you what day. My suggestion is that you wake up early around 6 AM and re-register it at godaddy.com Thats all there is to it, and unless you have it.com under your bag that should be all you need.

I registered a domain name last yr for a friend I paid for it and she was going to take care of renewing it , she waited too long to send the funds and then decided that she would re register it herself when it expired( shes Canadian and it was less for me to register it than for her ), it expired 3 weeks ago but is still comming up as registered to me. How long does it take to have it become available again? the registrar is register.com

Would that be 6am GMT?

it is been said that a host puts your expired domain to the public at 6 am the registrars time. so if the company is on the east coast it would be east coast time.

many registrars US mail a renewal offer several times to the original registrant before actually putting it back in the pool.

If you're interested in the SnapNames service you'd better hurry. I just received their e-mail saying that their charges will be increased to $49 (from $35) 5 days from now (June 21st).
Seems that their system really does work and there's a demand for this service after all.
