View Full Version : space space, and only space :)
Cyrus 06-19-2001, 03:50 PM Hi all
If i wanted sumthing like 2-4 GB space with FTP access and no bandwidth restrictions ...
Does anyone know anyone who specialises in these kinds of deals ?
Thanks :homer:
avara 06-19-2001, 03:55 PM No bandwidth restrictions? I'm afraid there is no "unlimited".
The Prohacker 06-19-2001, 03:59 PM Again, like with your ratio ftp request, your best solution is to get a dedicated server, and buy bandwidth....
tubedogg 06-20-2001, 04:08 AM Especially with 2-4 GB of space. I've never seen a (legitimate) host offer over about 800MB on a shared account.
XTStrike 06-20-2001, 04:12 AM how much are you willing to pay for this huge amount of space?
bearing in mind you want GB's of space and MANY GB's of transfer
iVersit 06-20-2001, 04:29 AM hey...you wouldn't be putting any ILLEGAL on your 2-4 GB would you??....hmmm.....
(SH)Saeed 06-20-2001, 05:04 AM space space, and only space :)
Space does not cost my friend, it is bandwidth that costs a lot!

iVersit 06-20-2001, 05:08 AM he's got free hard drives too??? hook me up.

My point is that, when a user wants a FTP account with 2-4GB space, the space is not the hosts biggest concern...

I do not WANT to buy 2-4 GB's worth of space. I am just wondering if it is possible to get that much space ( seeing this is a webhost forum. anything can heppen here, right ? )
I dont want ( what will "I" do with 2-4 gb's of space) or have the funds to buy this kind of stuff. I have barely got myself 300mb on a shared server :)
But thanks anyway everyone for the help.
tubedogg, if ur selling hard drives, how much are they ?? and where can you send them ?? PM if you can, thanks

XTStrike 06-21-2001, 03:24 AM hmm... "I Dont want or have the funds to buy this kind of stuff"
great, im sorry, but why ask in the first place!!!
well, i get 25GB transfer and 10GB of space for $150 a month, and thats a dedicated server.
the thing is if you have 2-4GB of space then you need the bandwidth to be high then because you must be transferring alot of data and possibly to many people.
Even people that do offer unlimited transfer will not give you that much space because as many people have said, what is the most likely reason for having that much space.
I went dedicated because I know i only would have got fed up of hosts complaining about me doing things on their shared server, at least with dedicated, i can do what i want, and i know there is only ONE limit BANDWIDTH/TRANSFER
But, for that kind of space you are looking at either warez or a large news archive of some sort, if you could prove its some sort of news archive then there might be a few people willing to host it.

PagesUSA 06-21-2001, 09:36 AM I think the point was that hard drives are cheap these days, especially in comparison to bandwidth.

Kiwi,
How can you say that without knowing what else he is recieving? I mean, it's not only the harddrive and bandwidth that determine if the price is high/low..

XTStrike 06-21-2001, 10:34 AM well Kiwi/anybody else, if you can give me a recommendation (via e-mail) for anybody else that can offer me the following:
600Mhz+
256MB Ram
25 GB Bandwidth/pm
10GB Disk
VERY Reliable and Fast Network
RedHat7
Free IP's
Root Password - Dedicated Server
you must be able to supply me with an IP of a server on the network the server would be located on, and you must be able to guarantee that the server i get will have the same tracert results.
I will then analyse the IP every 15 minutes for one month and if the performance is good I will consider transferring.
I will also send random technical support requests and tickets and calls for one month and log the reply times.
I will then need a shell account on the server the IP is located on for two days to complete comprehensive testing.
If you can do all this for under $150 per month for me and out perform my current host then you will probably have yourself a new customer.
Personally i think the above should be standard practice as it will solve many of the problems people post on this board.
