Poor Communications.

I'm in the process of changing my host. But what is irritating me is WHY didn't they write me and tell me they were doing whatever it is they were doing that caused my site to (1) For a week not load images and music only text (2) Disban the domain name email.

Instead I suddenly become a victim of poor service. I paid for an annual account (have 6 months to go) and yet I'm leaving.

I also did not buy my domain name from them, but from Network solutions. They said they could not give me a stats page because I didn't buy my name through them in some hosting package.

They are in California. Is the energy crisis making poor hosting service out there?

So I'm moving my site to a new Host with lots of energy!

But...

This is the 3rd Hosting company who without prior notice just up and did some technical repairs, or sold their accounts to someone else and just let all their clients sit and wait and wonder.

Finally, email never is answered and.... the phone number is DISCONNECTED!

In the meantime, changing to a new host takes days, in which I pray my search engine stats and ranking does not suffer all because they did not give me prior notification of whatever happened to them.

I feel this is so unprofessional.

PS: This topic isn't about this forum. I meant it to be about MY previous website host facilitator. Saying forum was a Freudian slip I guess. Sorry.

I've changed the thread topic. If it isn't what you want, PM me or another mod with the URL of the thread and what you'd like it to say...

Hi,
yeah, that doesn't sound too professional, You said you have used over 3 hosts, I hope you aren't using the $12 a year hosts :)

Hosts selling accounts at $12 a year, like those 1 dollar a month things.. won't provide you the tech support you will need.

ADW, can't say that for all the hosts out there :)

:bawling: I paid $250 a year. The reason I went with them is because my site already has 100MB's or more used up. WHo can tell without stats? But when I joined them I had 90MB's and I've added a lot in 6 months.

When searching for a new Host, I found many offering UP TO 100 MBs as their highest. Me, I had to find those that started there and went on up. I did.

But, the price is now $49.95 a month (I am not going annually again!) plus it's got T1 or so server, and a lot of new faster, powerful stuff machines I have no clue what it means. I could get flash, video blah blah but I don't want it at this point.

I'd tell you who my old one is and who my new one will be but, I don't think that's allowed here?

My new host also deals with satellite TV, cell phones, etc. So Hosting isn't their only deal and well, they aren't located in some 5 room office in some warehouse or whatever.

You pay for what you get I guess? But when I signed up, domain names were like $70 a year and hosting wasn't that expensive.

Ironically there's a twist. Domain names are dropping and finding good, reliable and up to tech hosting is now getting expensive (for 200 MBs or more).

I don't sell a thing. My .com is for COMedy! So I don't need secure servers, shopping carts etc.

I'm a simple gal with simple needs... A lot of MB's for all those graphics and animations, email and stats and some 99% uptime and at least an active telephone and some answers in email when I do have a question for them.

My site is still NOT ready for FTP. Geez, what takes so long!!!

A mistake or error can happen with setting up an account. The real test is how quickly you can get in touch with support and how quick they fix the problem.

As mentioned above, dirt cheap hosts have to cut back on something and supprt is usually what suffers.
