jeff-ev1 04-15-2003, 12:00 PM The Headsurfer would like to extend an invitation to the President/CEO of the following companies to meet him in Las Vegas. The trip dates are April 27-30. Headsurfer will provide roundtrip airfare on Southwest Airlines and one nights stay at The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, additional nights can be purchased for $49-$59 per night. Let's meet, greet, party, and finally put faces with names. There is no agenda; we just want to meet the others in our industry.

They missed a lot of providers in the invite. I think I won't attend, I'll take care of my business instead.
tandem 04-15-2003, 01:55 PM I wonder what was the criteria in inviting those companies? ;)
I hope RS doesn't get bad management ideas from the likes of burstnet/nocster, FDC and @webhost. A quick glance in the dedicated hosting forum for those guys reveal an arm and a leg length of complaints from their customers.

I thought this was a joke at first. RS offering airfare on SW and one nights stay at the Golden Nugget. Anyone else see the irony? :)
Sounds like a goodtime.

hmm... odd, they didn't invite the partners they all have in common and use the most past bandwidth and hardware - the admin panel creators. Odd.

porcupine 04-16-2003, 12:10 PM I'm afraid I'll have to respectfully decline this very generous invitation at this time. Theres simply too much going on this month, which requires my attention (unfortunatly). I hope someone does bring a camera as i'm sure everyone would like to put some faces to the [nick]names to say the very least.
Perhaps another time :), and thanks for the invite Robert , I'm flattered, and honored to have made such a list to say the least :).

First things first: they might want to fix their Web site and remove the names and e-mail addresses of employees who no longer work there before they worry about writing a new feature article!

jeff-ev1 04-16-2003, 05:09 PM Here is what we have planned at this point. We will be arriving on Sunday April 27th and departing on Wednesday April 30th. We are making dinner reservations for Sunday evening at 7:30pm at Hugo's Cellar, which is right across the street from the Golden Nugget. At this point no other plans are firmed up yet. We will probably set up additional get togethers at dinner on Sunday night.
Make you reservation at the Golden Nugget by calling 1-800-846-5336 or go to www.goldennugget.com . Room rates are $59 per night.
FYI...Networld/Interop is also going on during these dates...http://www.interop.com/lasvegas2003/

Rochen 04-17-2003, 01:21 PM I thought Timmy was on Robert's guest list? no? Maybe I got it wrong... :D
hostpath.com 04-17-2003, 01:58 PM BTW: As a 20-year Vegas veteran, the Nugget is my favorite place to stay. It's easily a nice as most of the better hotels on the strip, at a lower price. Of course I'm a poker player, so the fact that it's directly across from Binion's is nice, too (although these days I spend more time in the Bellagio's poker room).
Ask for a mountain view room.

porcupine 04-17-2003, 02:17 PM IF anyone should go in my place, it'd be Vito. Not only is he a great guy/customer, but he also hosted the WHT Ontario meet, and Casie and myself were the only ones who showed up. IMHO shelling out the commit to host a meet in his own house, and getting all those no-shows is reason enough for him to be the most deserving on my list, hands down.
Hehe, thanks, Myles. Unfortunately I just read the fine print on your invitation -
Non-transferrable... :bawling:

Chances are 90% of it is tax writeoff anyhow, business meeting and accomodations, and dinner, heck Robert probably saves money by doing this in technicality as it allows him to declare his "visit" as business, hence tax deductable for his large, i'd imagine 6 figure salary :).

Rochen 04-18-2003, 12:43 PM Yup, the addition of Ensim to the table should certainly make the event more interesting. You guys will have so many things to discuss, yet so little time... :D
Rochen 04-18-2003, 12:45 PM I was just having a thought about this. Perhaps if this event goes successfully, it would be interesting to turn this into some kind of "Annual WHT Event". Of course, we wouldn't expect Robert to finance this everytime...

Acronym BOY 04-18-2003, 05:19 PM Wow, that's a cheap room. Than again maybe I am used to expecting to pay double that for a hotel in Manhttan :p
Now if only I hadn't walked away from my busienss just yet, I might drop by, I need a vacation and for the first time in a while, can afford it.
creid 04-18-2003, 05:20 PM Maybe a general webhostingtalk.com conference is needed?

Well I am finished up for the day......getting out of here.
Hope all the whtalkizen's have a wonderful easter sunday!!
Yes, $59 is pretty cheap. I'm going Sunday to Tuesday, and that's the rate per night. But if I would go a day early, they would charge $129 just for Saturday night.

I have been reading this board for a couple of years now, but as I recall this is my first post (I will look at the post number when I actually hit submit :).
I *LOVE* Vegas and just so happens that I will be there during the same time so I thought I would come out of lurker mode to meet some of you guys that I don't already know. I will plan to attend the dinner on Sunday night and would love to invite all of you to be my guest at one of the hottest nightspots in Vegas on Sunday night....VIP treatment all the way and all on me :)
(I guess if I am going to be a part of the group I should at least buy the first night of drinks, huh? :)
Look forward to meeting everyone!

Look forward to seeing you all.

Why complain. This person owns a profitable business and he can spend his money any damn well he pleases. In fact, it sounds like he is attempting to "network" and that sounds like good business sense to me -- probably money well spent.

Oh well. Too late. I've already booked my flight and hotel (Golden Nugget).
Besides, I don't want to miss seeing my 9 year old daughter on Saturday in the qualifying rounds of the Canadian Spelling Bee Championships.

Dude you need to lighten up some I was not complaining at all for that fact I have no reason to complain, it was a joke in good fun. Go get some fresh air I think you may be spending too much time on WHT.

porcupine 04-19-2003, 02:29 PM Well looks like circumstances have changed (my main admin has agreed to sling up the hammock and babysit the DC while i'm away), and I'll be attending after all.
For anyone that hasn't specifically planned to come, you looked at the price for airfare to Las Vegas? It's absurd, tickets as low as $50 and under per flight (one there, one back), hard deal to beat to say the least.

I truly feel some people completely miss the point of business meetings and lunches, this isnt just a get together of a few people to talk about WebHostingTalk it is more of a networking occasion, people can come together, finally meet each other and exchange ideas. Almost all truly successful companies partake in a great deal of networking.
There may be females present at the event, there may be occasions for romance, but please dont see this event as a group of WHT people coming together to bicker. Think of it more as an opportunuty to progress.
On a final note, What makes you think the attendees are not already married or have families, you are smply assuming here that all WHT members are male with a sole purpose in life of making money, doing business and sitting in front of a PC all day, I can assure you here that from what I already know, your views are inaccurate and unfounded.
I for one look forward to meeting each and every person that attends the event.
JWise 04-20-2003, 11:22 AM I think its a good way for everyone to become friends and have some fun.... Always good to put a face to a name (nickname)

I think a lot of people reading this post are really jealous and if you have something negative to say to this positive group of users looking to go to Las Vegas and have an EXCELLENT time then you best keep your mouth shut. Some people are being very rude here.
cheers,
Linux Admin
Senad 04-20-2003, 06:34 PM How is expressing an opinion being rude? Some may find it pointless but anyway....
Good luck on your trips. Have a safe journey and for christ sakes please keep your pants on unless there is a girl present. I think this is a great idea and this should be an annual thing at WHT like a web hosting convention of sorts :).

You guys should have done it in Seattle; there are a bunch of hotels with DSL there. :D In any case, there are probably Internet cafes around. Besides, it's supposed to be a vacation away from your business.
Incognito 04-20-2003, 09:43 PM Sounds like it will be a blast....going to try to keep my schedule open for this next year. Vegas is our dream of retirement. Unfortunately, I have two board meetings, which I can't miss, scheduled for the week. Of course, it does mean I can remain "Incognito" another year.
Me thinks this was planned all along ;)
I'm bringing a laptop to keep in touch. And yes, unfortunately it is only dialup. But the hotel tells me there is an Internet Cafe "a few doors away"...

DigiDesignz 04-20-2003, 11:40 PM Yes have fun everyone. Hope this opportunity strengthes your business with others.
How about next year we have a 2004 WHT in Down-under :D
brockf 04-21-2003, 12:10 AM Haha, or Canada?
XTStrike 04-21-2003, 03:16 AM Now thats something I would certainly consider, only problem is the cost of the flights, 99% are in the USA and a flight from the USA or ANYWHERE to Aussie land is usually expensive, maybe if we plan it a couple of years in advance and give people time to save money.
My goal in life is to visit any many interesting countries as is humanly possible, im not doing very well so far but im only 23 !
Prague (2002)
Torremolinas (June 2003)
Mallorca (Loads of times)
Lanzarote (2001)
Vegas (next week)
I'm hoping to get to India, Japan, Australia, California, ill eventually do it but its a challenge finding friends with the money to go or id have to go on my own !

Sailor....hey neighbor :)
You, of all people, know how much I love Vegas...and I absolutely love staying at the Hard Rock during the Summer!! You are DEAD ON about the pool....there are more hotties there than any other pool in Vegas. Allow me to make you a suggestion....call down and rent a Cabana (specifically Cabana #9 or #11)...the girls will FLOCK to the Cabana. :)
As for Internet Access you are going to be on dialup unless they have added it in the last couple of months.....but who wants to be online at the Hard Rock anyway??? ;)
AFAIK, the only places with High Speed Internet are The Four Seasons (not the Mandalay Bay, just the Four Seasons floors), The Alladin, and a few of the High End Suites at the Venetian. I haven't stayed everywhere, but I have been at most of the high-end Casino's and they are the only ones that I know for sure have it....there may be more.
