What is the most proffessional way to set up an intranet for internal connection among the departments of a large company?

Is it a proffessional way to set up an intranet for my company via a broadband (or dial-up) connection?

Thanks
Alex

I would definitly go with broadband and depending on the number of computers and/or devices that need to be connected buy a hub or a router. The major companies are the best to go through. If you live on the east coast you should choose verizon.

We just got Business unlimited adsl and use a router to share it in a LAN. Works well, easy to setup, and more than sufficient for many users.

They over priced on alot of things. For instance, in the Washington, DC area, I provide T1's up to $250 a month cheaper than Verizon.

There are plenty of other services you can go with. Check out dslreports.com for broadband, but it really depends on your location.

I would go with anything but dial up. Dial up on a lan will be VERY slow and not work very well. Just find a router that you can use and find a provider and you are set. Just install the router and then the isp and you can be surfing in no time.

Problem is that the different departments are in different cities.

Can I assume that the only possible way to link the departmants is the broadband connection?

Our intranet is on a T1 through Verizon.

I should say that Verizon is fairly higher priced, and we have experienced numerous outages in our own intranet. As a matter of fact, our intranet just came back up this morning, after being down since 6PM EST yesterday. We were unable to receive or answer support, and sales emails, because there was no connection.

I also have to say however, that overall Verizon is a good choice. Their customer service is great, friendly, and fast (once you get through their IVR)

In general, regardless of what provider you choose, you definately want to go with a broadband connection.
