View Full Version : Registrars Im confused
Lacey 06-18-2001, 11:30 PM Im not thrilled with register.com an hour on hold transferred 3 times to get a recording that says phone support isnt available, then a flood of emails that arent even related to my request for help.
Ive visited Dotster, Joker , GoDaddy and 000domains.com none of these have a demo of the control / admin area so I feel like Im takin a shot in the dark. all I really require is the ability to changed DNS myself .
out of these who is the most reliable and has the best admin / control panel?
Martie 06-18-2001, 11:35 PM www.000domains.com
Its a VERY EASY interface to work with there.
Give it a try....I think you'll be happy ;)
alpha 06-18-2001, 11:51 PM 000domains.com has been getting alot of attention...
i would go with them if stargateinc.com didn't exist ;)
then dotster cause they are still very reliable
Newbie 06-19-2001, 12:22 AM I've been pretty happy with http://bulkregister.com
Jedito 06-19-2001, 12:27 AM http://www.powerpipe.com $8.88 :)

Duster 06-19-2001, 12:42 AM If you have enough sense to operate a personal computer (you're not looking over somebody's shoulder while they type for you, are you?) you have enough sense to register or transfer a domain with the Open SRS Domain Manager.
See for yourself. I just added some screen shots at http://techcellence.net/domainmanager.htm
Newbie 06-19-2001, 12:52 AM I like the choice of the Domain name Duster :stickout
David@Digisurge 06-19-2001, 12:54 AM I have 5 domains with 000domains.com . I can instantly change the nameservers whenever I want.

It's a bit of bit of subtle humor and reflects the only thing that truly is unlimited with certain hosts.
TheOp 06-19-2001, 02:46 AM stargateinc.com gets my vote as well. 8 bucks for 2 and a easy to use control panel.
tubedogg 06-19-2001, 07:08 AM I'm very happy with directnic.com. They may be a bit more expensive than some ($15 a year) but they offer more services such as free hosting, free bannerless redirection, free email, and an extensive control panel.
edude 06-19-2001, 08:30 AM I also reccomend powerpipe, i register my domains with them and my clients domains!

markblair 06-19-2001, 09:56 AM I use Dotster for three domains that I have and recommend them highly. You can change anything on your account as many times as you want and whenever you want. Just remember, when you make a DNS change, it can take up to 24-48 hours before it becomes affective across the entire Internet. This doesn't matter which registrar you go with. This is how it works normally anywhere. Not sure if you were aware of that.
imajes 06-19-2001, 10:33 AM Has any host decided to themselves deploy openSRS directly, or do you all use subset services (like 000domains.com)?
thanks,
James
dektong 06-19-2001, 10:35 AM I use enom.com and I am actually a reseller of enom.com (got a very nice deal with enom that "forced" me to use them :D). No problems so far. Enom also allows you to change your DNS records easily (it has an interface for this). However, to ask for your own nameserver (ns.yourdomain.com, ns2.yourdomain.com, etc), you need to send an email to tech support, and that's not great, especiall it may take them quite a while to process the request (so I heard). Also last time I transfer a domain, the whole process took about 5-7 days ... not sure whether this is normal ... Anyway, I am quite happy with Enom ..
cheers,

creepcolony 06-19-2001, 11:00 AM i registered mine at tera-byte.com
Dogma 06-19-2001, 11:11 AM StarGateInc (http://www.stargateinc.com) is very nice and cheap. They have a great control panel and a phone support wait of only 5 minutes!!
mattan 06-20-2001, 06:23 AM I dont know about the rest, but I have been having some problems trying to do a proper registration with them
1. I tried doing a domain check yesterday but it would list all domains except for the .cc domains as available.
2. today I managed to do registration after a few attempts, but after getting my credit card info into the system it would just go to an empty page without any registration confirmation message.
I just hope that this is some minor quirks that they are having
pootp 06-20-2001, 12:03 PM anyone got any pics of stargateinc's control panel/domain manager?
