![]() | View Full Version : Is there a MailScanner PKG for a RAQ4? raq2dotcom 04-15-2003, 07:07 PM Any shortcuts to install this product? existenz 04-15-2003, 08:45 PM I like these directions http://www.qitc.net/support/mailscanner/ I just use the latest versions of the software. cgisupp 04-16-2003, 12:19 AM Or you could use the package http://www.raqateers.com/mailscanner.htm blacknight 04-16-2003, 02:08 AM Originally posted by cgisupp Or you could use the package http://www.raqateers.com/mailscanner.htm Unless he has updated it the Bassi pkg is very out of date. Newer versions of Mailscanner are capable of detecting many common viruses, dangerous code and a lot more, so you should install it from source. raq2dotcom 04-16-2003, 09:40 AM What other virus Defs can you use with mailscanner? existenz 04-16-2003, 02:05 PM If you follow the directions inserting the latest versions of the software you can use f-prot with mailscanner. I have it setup to download virus definition with a cron job. raq2dotcom 04-16-2003, 03:37 PM Besides PF? existenz 04-16-2003, 04:50 PM Directly from my MailScanner config file: # # Virus Scanning and Vulnerability Testing # ---------------------------------------- # # Do you want to scan email for viruses? # A few people don't have a virus scanner licence and so want to disable # all the virus scanning. # NOTE: This switch actually switches on/off all processing of the email # messages. If you just want to switch off actual virus scanning, # then set "Virus Scanners = none" instead. # # If you want to be able to switch scanning on/off for different users or # different domains, set this to the filename of a ruleset. # This can also be the filename of a ruleset. Virus Scanning = yes # Which Virus Scanning package to use: # sophos from www.sophos.com, or # sophossavi (also from www.sophos.com, using the SAVI perl module), or # mcafee from www.mcafee.com, or # command from www.command.co.uk, or # kaspersky from www.kaspersky.com, or # kavdaemonclient from www.kaspersky.com, or # inoculate from www.cai.com/products/inoculateit.htm, or # inoculan from ftp.ca.com/pub/getbbs/linux.eng/inoctar.LINUX.Z, or # nod32 from www.nod32.com, or # f-secure from www.f-secure.com, or # f-prot from www.f-prot.com, or # panda from www.pandasoftware.com, or # rav from www.ravantivirus.com, or # antivir from www.antivir.de, or # clamav from clamav.elektrapro.com, or # trend from www.trendmicro.com, or # none (no virus scanning at all) # # Note for McAfee users: do not use any symlinks with McAfee at all. It is # very strange but may not detect all viruses when # started from a symlink or scanning a directory path # including symlinks. # # Note: If you want to use multiple virus scanners, then this should be a # space-separated list of virus scanners. For example: # Virus Scanners = sophos f-prot mcafee # raq2dotcom 04-17-2003, 03:05 PM I have a client that receives documents that look like bell.abc.wpd. Mailscanner thinks it is a virus. Any ideas/ blacknight 04-17-2003, 06:34 PM If you are using the current version of Mailscanner have a good look through the configuration files. You should be able to setup specific rules raq2dotcom 05-14-2003, 09:48 AM Anyone have install steps for Kaspersky? BruceB 05-14-2003, 12:29 PM RAQ4 - Having installed bothMailScanner and SpamAssassin, I want to improve the spam detection rate and I see that there is an SA-LEARN feature which you may re-send spam and non spam to a specified mail account. Can I set a GUI mail account for this ? The instructions I am using http://lawmonkey.org/anti-spam.html are designed for Free-BSD servers and not RAQ. I am not sure whether I must install amavisd and all the others mentioned in this document, to get the learning going. Any super intelligent (Compared to me) bods out there with answers ? blacknight 05-14-2003, 01:47 PM I would advise that you have a look through the mailing list archives for the Mailscanner. There are a lot of very savvy people using it who discuss many aspects of spam blocking both through the software and its many addons BruceB 05-15-2003, 04:21 AM Thanks BlacKnight, I have spent many hours reading the archives without much luck. I had hoped that as a RAQ forum, there would be a more specific details for me. Ah well, thanks anyway raq2dotcom 07-31-2003, 11:43 PM I installed the virus scanner using Bassi's pkg. How do I stop the mail service and start it again . . /etc/rc.d/init.d/MailScanner stop does not work? Also, how do I know if my virus defs are being updated? thanks for any help! blacknight 08-01-2003, 03:43 AM Which anti-virus are you using? I don't know which version of MailScanner Bassi's pkg is based on, but I have a feeling it's quite an old one. I would strongly recommend visiting the project site and looking at the RAQ instructions. D8Mike 08-01-2003, 10:54 PM /etc/rc.d/init.d/mailscanner restart or /etc/rc.d/init.d/mailscanner stop /etc/rc.d/init.d/mailscanner start or you may run find MailScanner cd /etc/rc.d/inti.d then you know for sure where located to run command. This is how its run on our raq4i. Ivan 08-02-2003, 05:37 AM Originally posted by raq2dotcom I installed the virus scanner using Bassi's pkg. When I was using this one, to stop it you have to run a file in the /usr/local/MailScanner directory, (not sure about the filename I think it was something like check_something.sh) and it will give you the pid #. Then just type kill (and the pid#) this will stop it. And to restart it just use: /etc/rc.d/init.d/MailScanner start blacknight 08-02-2003, 05:43 AM With newer versions you simply type: service MailScanner stop/start/restart huck 08-07-2003, 03:22 PM We suggest using the latest Mailscanner. Julian and team worked pretty hard to iron out some issues. We have found the newer version works much better on Raqs. You still need to make some modifications as suggested in the article above, but overall we find the new version works well. We did find some issues with virus scanners trying to grab a tty. Make sure you do a test to make sure the virus scanning portion is working. By default Mailscanner will block a number of files based on filename, so you may need to turn off those matches to make sure your virus program is catching viruses. We use mailscanner with RAV AV, but Microsoft bought RAV AV, so I am not sure of the future of the product. F-prot and sophos are other alternatives. I have not sufficient tested clam-AV to know how well it works. RAV AV is around $30 for a license. Not sure pricing on other options. If Panda AV is supported, the have a command line version for linux around the $30 mark. Pingouin 08-14-2003, 03:11 AM Does anybody have an experience of installing MailScanner on a RAQ 550 ?
