View Full Version : Do Not Try This Host (ucvhost.com)
Asher S 06-18-2001, 06:20 AM OKay, i tried this host its awful. Firstly, their imail is the worst. Then for $16.5 tehey only give 10 mb. I purchased a custom component of asp for $50 and they refused to install it. They have terrible customer support. And they said my account would be setup in 24 hours, it wasnt. It took 12 days! And when it worked i asked them to install my component they refused. It took a lot of chargeback threats to get them to setup my account. Now just today i got a refund. These people are aweful. Their downtime is terrible. DO NOT host with them. Goto dellz.com instead. Anyone wishing to start a small website steer clear of these folks.
Dogma 06-18-2001, 10:21 AM I don't know about Dellz.com ::shudder:: but thanks for the warning!!
sweethorizons 06-18-2001, 04:18 PM I stayed away from dellz.com because I wasn't sure if it was legit.
Angel78 06-18-2001, 05:05 PM i had same expirience with websitecreations.net it took them too around week or two to set up my acoount and all they said it was some DNS error and it is ok now :)) they didint even offered me free 2 weeks instead...some of the hosts just arent.....hm nevermind
sanjay 06-18-2001, 05:14 PM how's hostica.com?? Anybody knows?
Jedito 06-18-2001, 05:28 PM Sanjay, search "unlimited bandwith" in this forum.
sanjay 06-18-2001, 07:15 PM That's kewl!!! too much info....
Thanks.
:D
Foo-Dawg 06-18-2001, 07:52 PM Kyo is right, these guys are horrible. Both toma1708
and me had a post about this earlier, the url is here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=11321). These guys are really bad.
Asher S 06-19-2001, 12:47 AM These guyz are damned rude. They couldnt do a simple job like installing an ASP customer component I PAYED $55 for. What kind of service is that? I hope thier merchant services get discontinued.
toma1708 06-21-2001, 12:56 PM I had some problems with UCV Host but apparently is finished. My site is up and running (www.romedchim.com) and I am a little bit worried about the email (?).
One of the guys from them contacted me today in order to clarify my messages in the forum. That means that they are interested about their business and perhaps the things will go easier for the future... at least I hope.
Anyway, I am monitoring the site I have and will post the results. It is very useful because I was very close of going with dataphorce and fortunately I had the idea to monitor their site and the results... bah.
"See" you
Asher S 06-22-2001, 01:52 AM bah! these people suck. They wouldnt install a simple whois component that i PAID $55 for. Blah these people deserve to fail.
toma1708 06-22-2001, 12:09 PM My site is down since 9 hours ago.
It functioned 2 days. Still waiting.
By the way, dellz.com is reselling for fasthosts.
Asher S 06-22-2001, 12:14 PM hahaha.. told u ucvhost.com sux. By the way many people at hostsearch.com have good stuff to say abt dellz.
toma1708 06-22-2001, 12:18 PM I am not telling that ucvhost is bad host. The only thing I would like is that they are more responsive.
What about dellz.com ?
Asher S 06-22-2001, 12:51 PM dellZ.com good.
MCHost-Marc 06-22-2001, 01:17 PM http://www.dellz.com/ offers unlimited space & unlimited bandwidth. Enough said
toma1708 06-22-2001, 01:21 PM Take a look at the fasthosts.co.uk threads as they are a reseller of fasthosts. It seems that unlimited traffic is stopping somewhere around 10 Gb for fasthosts reseller accounts.
creepcolony 06-22-2001, 01:59 PM is fasthost and donhost reseller becoming synonymous with web hosting failure?
toma1708 06-22-2001, 02:12 PM NO. The only problem is that they are offering unlimited... and as far as I know this not yet free merchandise. Otherwise, I am hosted at GNXonline (one of their resellers) and I am quite satisfied since now. They some problems and delay in response at this moment but I am sure this is only temporary.
MCHost-Marc 06-22-2001, 02:30 PM Wow, GNXOnline offers 100MB Space & Unlimited Bandwidth for $3.75 per Month :D (http://www.gnxonline.com/usa/hosting.htm)
toma1708 06-22-2001, 02:36 PM It is a good deal that's why I am going with them. I am only a little bit disturbed by the discussions on fasthosts.

They can't provide unlimited bandwidth at only $3.75/month. That will not even cover them 2GB's :) They are playing with their resources, like many hosts out there ...i suggest you to do a search in this forum with the keywords "unlimited bandwidth" ;)
toma1708 06-22-2001, 03:13 PM I am not very concerned by unlimited bandwidth as my site is not using very much so...
tubedogg 06-22-2001, 07:05 PM It really isn't the point *how* much your site is using. By saying unlimited bandwidth backed up by an overuse of resources policy, really they have the power to shut you down after 10MB if they wanted to. They wouldn't last long if they did that probably but there's no way of knowing where the magic number is that they will boot you for.
On Fasthost I think I read somewhere on here that a personal account gets 1GB, the business accounts get either 2GB or 5GB and a reseller account gets 10GB, but no resold domain can go over 2GB (who runs a reseller account with 10GB?!?!?!?).
jonny b 06-22-2001, 07:49 PM These guyz are damned rude. They couldnt do a simple job like installing an ASP customer component I PAYED $55 for. What kind of service is that?
What are you talking about??
Did you buy the custom component from them ?
No....then they didnt have to install anything for you!
Most hosts wouldnt install anything 3rd party as requested by a customer!
You will find it very hard to trace a host which bends to such a request, most wont entertain it because of virus threats etc.....
You should have asked if they would install it before *paying* $ 55 for something you didnt know wasnt supported!!!! :bawling:
Cheers,
toma1708 06-23-2001, 02:30 AM I am a customer, and I can decide to change even if I spent my money for nothing. If they can afford to let customers go elsewhere this is their problem. I only have some money lost but what about them ?
If you are not serious in the business, sooner or later you're finished and you must agree that you can not start and start over again.
My opinion is that they must be young people who are trying to realize more than they really can do in this moment. It is also clear for me that a lot of people involved in this business do not have business management skills even if they are good programmers ...
If you run a business you are trying to sell a product and like for all the products you must have a competitive after-sale assistance, otherwise on medium term you loose your customers.
In my opinion the web hosting is developing now the distribution system. As a comparison, for a normal mechandise, you have the manufacturer, the distribution and the retail. The problem until now was that the manufacturers (i.e server owners) tried to make distribution and retails instead of wholesale. Hopefully, they became more clever, probably because they couldn't follow the market evolution.
That's all since now because I'm not writing a novell..
Asher S 06-23-2001, 03:14 AM to johnny.
I pointed them out to where i bought it from. First they said OK we'll install it. Then they said no. bah! By the way ALL HOSTS INSTALL CUSTOM components. I asked them all, dellz said yes, win2khoster said yes as well as other people. UCV were plain rude about it. Are you their sales agent or something? :P
toma:
Yep your right. These people are inexperienced. Tell me would you talk to your customers in the following way:
ME] My account is not working, it's been 6 days since I signed up?
Mohit (this is the ucv guy) ] Dude chill out. We're workin on it.
Bah! They're just a bunch of kids.
toma1708 06-23-2001, 03:20 AM I am not their sales agent.
Asher S 06-23-2001, 03:24 AM lol no not u .. johnny

Asher S 06-23-2001, 03:33 AM lol the ones i asked .. do.. so thats all i care for. :)

Ah right! Fair enough! You didnt say they had already agreed to install it for you!
And no....not all hosts install custom components. Very few UK hosts would do this!
Cheers,
Asher S 06-23-2001, 06:20 AM Sorry about not mentioning it. I dont know about UK hosts but this host is in India. Don't know much about Indian hosts. Ill go with a UK.USA.CANADA host next time.
Asher S 06-23-2001, 06:25 AM :stickout
Lol i remember that i pinned down worldpay when ucv didnt setup my account. I called their hong kong office and had a conversation with a guy. Man understanding their accent is tough.
Jay Speedman 06-23-2001, 08:33 AM Hi. I am from Hong Kong :)
I used to work there (their office in Hong Kong)
Let me know if I can help. ;)

Asher S 06-23-2001, 11:36 AM haha lol:D
andrewteg 10-22-2002, 04:06 PM I've had good experience with UCV Host (ucvhost.com) They are usually on AOL or MSN or Yahoo and answer me immediately. I am just letting people know this if they are searching the board as all these posts are old.
-Andrew
Hap Kamp 04-05-2004, 05:55 PM I too have used UCVhost and have not had any major problems.
But, for $1 per month don't expect much in the way of hand-holding. I usually get them on AOL IM or MSM with no problem. The only *real* problem I have had in two years was the server needed a boot to correct a MySQL problem.
The guys that run the company are indeed in India, but the servers appear to be in NY/NJ and seem well connected.
For the price, they make a great place for email only customers, site development and testing, and a place to park domains with minimal content, and non-critical stuff.
I wouldn't put a mission critical site there, but then again I wouldn't put mission-critical on *any* discount hosting site. Thats what Verio, digital-river, etc are for.
