Hi....a previous thread inspired me to post this one. :)

I was wondering if ALL the compaq owners that see this thread could gimme some info and answer some questions....I own a compaq and I just want to get opinions on compaqs from everyone else :)

Here are the questions:

1.) What kind of compaq do you have (eg. Presario 5000, 7000, ect.) Please give some info about it....processor, RAM, hard drive space, and the price if you want.

2.) Does it perform good? (is it slow/fast?)

3.) Are you happy wit it? Was it a good investment?

4.)Do you have many or any problems with it?

5.) And here just add ure own comments....

My answers are below:

1.) I have a Custom made Compaq Presario 5000T.
PIII 1.0GHz Processor, 128mb RAM, 60gb hard drive, 16X-DVD-ROM(CD-ROM Also),and 8X-CD-RW. It cost me about $1,449.00 (a little more than that after all the warranty and stuff was added)

2.) It performs GREAT for me! :) VERY Fast..... most people say compaq's are SLOW)

3.) I am happy with it, it was a good investment because it is fully expandable and wont need to be expanded for a while.

4.)Only one.....it hogs RAM sometimes....but thats mostly due to all the "background" applications compaq has running. But it isnt realy a problem...I can run tons of programs at once.

5.) Thats about all.....I just made this post to get other people's opinions on compaq computers....most people say they are SLOW but mine is anything BUT slow....

Thanks for your time....

I don't own one, but my friend did and it was slow. So, he bought a new one (PIII 800) and it is a lot slower then my Dell PIII 600. Just my opinion and observations that they are slow.

I have 3 Presarios and never had any trouble with them the reasion i have 3 is beause after awhile they get out of date :) but all 3 still get used!

The oldest one i have was bought in 96 and it still works today it's just slow compared to a newer one and it gets used 12 hours a day. It's hard to belive the thing still works lol It only has 32Mb of ram i think that was a lot back then.

I will be getting a new Presario soon i want a new one with a Pentium 4.

Im Currently sitting in front of a Compaq Deskpro P450 with NT Workstation.
The office I am sitting in if I look across there about 80 of them within sight and another couple of thousand on the network I am on, it performs well and I do not have many problems with it, only problem I have ever had is a dudd graphics card and after its replacement the problem was sorted, so i really have no problems with Compaq.

Well, for all the background programs, just close them. if they aren't on the sys tray, just turn 'em off.
The only thing you NEED running is
Explorer
Sys tray
Networking [if you are on a network]

The only bad thing about Compaqs is that they often don't have enough RAM- the P4 1.7 gigahertz has 256 RAM- which is stupid, because I just bought 256 megs of RAM, guarenteed, warrenty- lifetime, for 40 bucks, after shipping in handling.

Mostly that's the only thing wrong with them.

NM. I just remembered that it is RD-RAM, not SD-RAM, which is much faster. ;)
