Can anyone tell me if I should run apache with KeepAlive enabled or not? Any experiences you got? What are the Pros and Cons? Thanks.

Thanks. cperciva 06-17-2001, 05:38 PM Using KeepAlive can significantly reduce bandwidth utilization (due to removing the TCP connection opening/closing overhead for additional connections) and *can* reduce the number of concurrent httpd processes you need... on the other hand, it will probably end up increasing the number of concurrent processes, due to processes waiting for extra requests which never come. Given that most of the benefit (ie, additional requests) comes within a very short time, I'd try running it with a timeout of around five seconds... you will lose some of the benefit, but you'll also discard most of the disadvantage of Keepalive that way. |
