I have been thinking about making a big community of forums all within the one site.
Im thinking of buying a domain name and creating one main forum which will be for general chat and a portal to the other forums.
The other forums would be a subdomain of the main domain.
I wouldnt run all the forums, i would setup the site for someone who was interested in running it on their choice of subject.
In essence its free hosting for people's forums but its only for subjects others will be interested in rather than a personal forum.
On the main forum i would have a nav bar which links to the main forums within the network...

Its just an idea i have been thinking about and wanted to know what you all thought :D

Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
John

It certainly has potential. I'm not certain how you would integrate all the communities together but it does sound like a good idea...:)

In what way will it be different from MSN Groups ? I mean whatever features you may have ...but in what way will the members use it differently ? MSN has all the features one can dream of : Chat, message board, photo albums, email notification....maybe more to follow.

I mention MSN just as an example since it has a wide participation.

What if i had a number od drop down menu in a nav bar at the top of the portal forum page?
Each drop down would have a certain subject and list all the forums to do with that subject/category.

Im sure there are a number of ways to do this, just have to find the best way.
Id say it would take quite a bit of work to get going though but im also sure A LOT of people would want to be part of the community just to have a free forum.
I would have to moderate which forums are made, dont want to have a load of personal forums that no-one else would be interested in.

Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions about this?I would be very interested to hear if you do,
Thanks,
John

I dont really use MSN so dont know what its like.
Only have ever used the messenger.

There probably are other sites that offer something like this but im sure i can still do it.

There wouldnt be many sites on the net if there was only one for each genre.
I would like to do it as i think it would be interesting so just something to work on when i have free time too.

Thanks for your reply RajanUrs
