View Full Version : Chat hosting?
klisis 06-16-2001, 01:17 PM Hello, I am looking for a inexpensive host for hosting my small chat room.
It is java chat room, known as Murmur.
http://www.sons.co.jp/Murmur/index.ja.html
http://www.sons.co.jp/Murmur/index.en.html
They no longer sell English Version but I bought the product while they were selling and want to use it.
I haven't been able to install the chat room successfully on two hosts I have encountered.
FYI, there won't be more than 10 chatters so it shouldn't be a resource hog.
PM or E_mail me if you are interested or reply this thread of course.
Add : I would prefer NT or win2K server but it can be run on Unix.
50MB or 100MB web space & 2 or 3 gig bandwidth would be more than enough.
MCHost-Marc 06-16-2001, 02:31 PM klisis: what are your requirements? ASP? Perl? PHP? mySQL? Also, how much space are you looking for & bandwidth? :)

What problems do you run into when installing it? You're welcome to try to install it on our server. We'll give you a hand if you need it.
If it works, we can talk about pricing, if not no money needed. If you don't like our pricing, just pack up and go to another host. :)
Either way, good luck!
Jedito 06-16-2001, 05:43 PM Hi Klisis:
I don't undestand 1 work in japanese.
Can you tell me how it work?
What do you need to make it work? servlets? ASP?
Why do you prefer windows to host that?
Excuse me for all this question. But I'm curious now :D

I don't need any of those. All I need is Java.
3gig would be more than enough.

The chat application runs as standalone application.
I need to execute start.bat or start file(for unix). I haven't been able to execute that file via ftp nor Http. I haven't tried telent though.
Wazeh 06-16-2001, 07:21 PM klisis,
Email me, I will try to install it on our backup server, if it's not a resource hog, I will host it for you for free.

It has two versions, Unix version and Windows version. Do you want Unix version or Windows Version?
klisis 06-16-2001, 09:39 PM The following attachment is the readme. txt
Attachment isn't working?

JDK (Java Development Kit) is required.
The only reason I prefer windows to host it is that this chat program was originally designed to work on windows system.
