and it started to hang, then I lost my internet connection Anyway I waited about ten mins to see if anything was updated, the cpanel build still says the same. So i run it from shell, it gets this far

root@ [~]# /scripts/upcp
PHP version file is up to date
Doing a manual update...
Cpanel updates are coming from layer2.cpanel.net
fileutils passes checksum
findutils passes checksum
net-tools passes checksum
Checking /dev/hda....OK
x - creating lock directory
x - SKIPPING /usr/local/lib/php.ini (file already exists)

and it just hangs and does nothing. Now the entire server is extremly slow in response, or doesnt respond at all. No matter if I am looking at a website or logging into WHM.

Im open to suggestions

I'd suggest restarting Cpanel and try the update again.

Tried, still hangs. Im looking at the process list at the moment seeing if anything is left hanging and killing it

I would put in a ticket with Cpanel.

Heres how I got mine to finally work.

Open two shell windows, log in as root.

Run top in one window, and run /scripts/upcp in the other. As the update is running it will get to the part that says php ignoring using existing or something and hang. Look at the other window, look for the rpm process then kill it, then watch the other window, the update continues. then it will hang again, go back to the other shell window kill the rpm process. i had to do this a few times before it finally worked. Reboot the system, run the update again, made sure all system software returns an "up to date" message before your done. Pain in the butt, but cpanel did upgrade :)
