Too many popups.. do they still require credit card info for sign up? That's a minus for being a free host, like they're prepared charge you any moment..

I don't think they require cc inorder to signup.

I don't know about now, because I haven't used free hosting for awhile.

try going to www.envy.nu they don't have any pop ads. If you need ftp access they do not have that. Geocities has ftp access most likely still. .

webjump.com is a cool place. Gives 25MB and unlimited bandwidth free. However it has a popup ad and banners on the top. I took an account there some time back. You could try it out

ecomiscool.webjump.com (http://ecomiscool.webjump.com)

Have fun!!

Most Free Webspace providers are going bankrupt or already have gone bankrupt...

Homestead.com is going to paid service...

Most Free services will either fold or go pay...So, you might as well pay for it now, so you don't go through the trouble of switchin hosts when they do go pay or bankrupt...

You should just sign up w/ a hosting providers. Even if you don't want a domain you can get a subdomain with most providers. I know of a few that will work for
www.datapackets.net and dim8.net. You might have to contact hosts and asking them if they would do that for your.
I recently came across plans starting as low as 5 dollars a month for hosting and 10 for the best hosting you can get for a site. Here is a list of some of them:
doteasy.com
your-site.com
digitalibiz.com/(this one seems to be the best!)

See if your isp provides webspace. Most isp's do. Actually I have 2 different Isp's and they all provide webspace with there service. Usually they have no ad's too.
