I'm looking for a host for my site and while I may end up paying $10/month, I was really looking for something even cheaper (the site is hobby only and won't make money).
Is it possible to find good support and standard features for under ten bucks or will I have to shell out?

I appreciate any replies unless hosts are flaming each other - so please don't.

Hi there!
There are alot of reputable hosts out there for that price. It may be a good idea though to post what type plan (specs) you need
Good Luck!

Thanks. I'm not looking for too much, just CGI (Perl), maybe 10-20mb of storage and as much transfer allowance as possible (maybe 2 gigs).

Theres many for that price but you need to do some good research on them to see if the company is worth the server its hosted on! Theres too many scams these days and it gets worse by the minute. I would post my company here but I dont want to be a shark in the web hosting waters. :)

Check out linuxwebhost.com

Just be warned their tech support sucks ... if you know what you're doing, they have all the specs you could want for $7.95/month.

Personaly I have had over 30 sites hosted with them for about a year now and haven't had any trouble.

And allow me to put the usual plug in for Below $10 Host @ http://www.below10host.com - they have decent tech support and there are various threads throughout this forum.

You might also want to check your-site.com, as they offer low prices, plus the ability to select onyl the components you want right now, and then add other components as needed. I'm not quite sure how their pricing stacks up once you do start adding those things, but they are a good host. Several comments have been made about the speed at which they respond to email, but overall the consensus is quite good.

Thanks a lot guys. Those both look like good hosts. I've found a few already but was turned off pretty quickly.

Just a few words of advice to you hosts:
1)make sure people can view your hosting plans with one click from the main page
2)watch the way you word your FAQ's - a few places turned me off right away by sounding very angry and having a "figure it out yourself" kind of attitude.

Just a few things I noticed after looking at about 50 hosts.

See if you are doing a non-profit site, i highly suggest try going with a free host if doing a free site. I've tries www.envy.nu, (http://www.envy.nu,) they are new, and if this is a hobbyk i highly recommed them, i have a few hosted here, they first give u 6 megs but soon will give u 20. Email me at chris@chrisdildy.com. If I may be of anymore assitance.
