I have a few suggestions that may or may not interest you.
I'm curious to know ... what do you need ratios for?
With or without I suggest the following ftp deamons:

Vermillion FTP - www.arcanesoft.com

Vermillion is absolutely one of the best applications I have ever used.

this seems to be a local ftp program, similar to serv-u ftp.

I need a REMOTLEY hosted ftp !

that is the whole point of me coming here.

Tahnks

Hmmm... Most ratio sites are warez or mp3z... You probably wont find a provider that will allow this. (i'm notg saying this is what you offer) If you are looking for a legitimate service, register a domain or get a hosting pakage that allows for a Huge amount of data transfer... and allows anonymous ftp.

hmm, thanx for that mate.

i wasnt going to host any of the 2 u said. Infact, it was perfectly legit. I just dont wnt to say as then my idea will be stolen :)

Ok, well I think Ill stop the hunt for one and like you said, choose a high transfer company and make an anymous account.

thanks again people

What's this ratio thing all about? Is this sort of an on-the-fly compression where the FTP server compresses the files before sending them, is it that?

I tried a little search on Google but all I found out is that many think ratios suck...

I believe its where the software restricts how many files you can download for each file that you upload....

Ratio means that you can down X bytes for Y bytes uploaded.

So, a 1/5 ratio means you can download 5 bytes for every 1 bytes you uploaded.

It is often used with warez ftp, so that might be why people think it sucks, because they have to upload stuff before downloading their warez ;) :D

Well .. there are several ftp softwares you can use in Unix that support ratio.

1. GLftpd - the best one out there
2. FTP4all - doesn't need to be installed as root, it can run in a regular shell. ( all hosting companies that provide huge quota for their clients .... beware of this software... :) ).
3. ProFTPD
