Hello all

I have just got hooked on website building after messing around with Tripod and the like, and i have just got hold of dreamweaver and MS frontpage to hopefully help me along the way.

So after telling some friends what im doing i have been asked to do web sites for 2 small businesses (both in UK), 1 is a car garage (that will probably need a few photo's and the usual info, nothing over the top) and the other is a new design company (probably lots of photo's and the like and a few pages). Now both are prepared to pay for the hosting its just that there are so many around i was wondering if anybody could recommend a few hosts or if not point out any bad eggs that i should avoid as its their money im spending and im a bit green at the moment.

any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

There are too many hosts to just a give a list of good or bad ones, however if you post a request in the request forum (bottom of the page) you should get a good amount of offers. After this chose the ones that you like the most and start by searching the forum, there is normally always at least one thread about a company (unless they are really new) that should give you a feel for what they are like.

Once you think you have a good one email them to test their support response time and ask questions and see how well they help you out.

BUG, you should be posting in the request part alright, but the number of bad eggs is likely to be more than the good ones.

Yes, you are bound to get loads of replys that look too good to be true... amazingly low prices for loads of space and transfer... be careful and make sure you do your research!

BUG,
If you have the time try to get as much research done as you can on any potential host. Rules forbid (if one follows them and everyone is suppose to) hosts or anyone else recommending services that one hasnt used. having said that there are plenty of good, reliable hosting co. around.
What might work for you would be a small reseller account but that option would require you doing your own billing, support, etc. for those clients. Another option, more simplified is you just refer your client to the host. The latter option would be the host handling the billing, support, etc. Send a few emails and inquire.

Good Luck ;)
