I am new to the hosting business. I want to run my own inhouse windows 2000 web server but have a problem deciding on the internet speed I should get. I don't have a big budget for the internet access so I am very limited. I was thinking of the ADSL 3.0 download and 640k Upload. Is that a good choice for webhosting? I am afraid I sign up with the ISP company and commit for a 1 year contract and later find out that this choice was a bad idea. I have about 20 sites and growing. So is that upload speed of 640 enough? I will get unlimited bandwidth too. The ISP company respresentative told me that it would be pretty fast that I get 640k. Because deviding it by 8, I get 80Kbits!!! I don't know what he meant by that either! Can you please advise me :D Thnx.

80kbytes... and you have 20 sites... thats 4kbytes per second if they are all being looked at.... thats really slow unless you are expecting everyone to be using 56k... but thats unrealistic...

You might be able to get away with hosting a few friends sites on an ADSL line, but I dont think I would ever buy hosting from someone doing it on that connection... and also DSL is less reliable than the dedicated lines that a proper host would use (these are more expensive though)...

Have you thought about getting a reseller account or buying a dedicated server in a proper data center? I think you would get better results by doing this...

I have been trying to find a reseller plan for the past week but no great hopes... I am looking for a windows 2000 host with at least 20 Gb Bandwidth and at least 2 Gb space. I am looking for a price range of around $100/month with no more than $100 setup fee. I am somehow flexible on the price if the company I will be hosting my sites with are very reliable and not like Interland services!!! I like the webmatrix solutions and it was soooo cheap for reseller plans so I don't know if they are any reliable. I read some threads about webmatrix services and it wasn't that great to hear about that company! So can someone guide me to a company that suits my needs?

u can get a lot more for $100/mnth

2GB space and 20GB transfer shouldnt cost $100, take a look in the reseller forum, and do a search here on the forum as all the big companies will have comments for and against them which can be very useful.

They can definately set you up for well under a hundred bucks. Damiaan, is the guy I normally speak with, but Jeff also, is a top notch owner/sysadmin.
