View Full Version : Who do I go through for a dedicated server?

I am looking at starting up my own online web hosting company, and doing away with the whole reseller thing. I heard the best way to do that is buying a dedicated server right? Let me know if I am wrong about that. Furthermore, who should I go through to get one? Site 5? I like their prices, but I am tempted to go with my first(cheapest) option, which only contains 8 ips, and 25 gb bandwith... That can get expensive when it comes time to get more ips. Who should I go with?

Thanks

There are lots of companies that offer good dedicated deals. Site5.com is one of them. PWebtech.com is another one, there is also VenturesOnline.com and countless others. If its your first dedicated server, i would suggest you go with a company that offers managed servers; especially if you dont have any or minimal system administration experience.

You can always start out with a smaller server, and then get the next one and so on :) With the Site5's smallest server, you can host around 25 websites (@ 1GB bandwidth each) ...or 50 smaller websites (@ 500MB bandwidth each).

Lets say you pay $199/month for the server ...each account would cost you $3.98 (calculated with 50 accounts) ...the rest is your profit (excluding credit card processing fees) ;)

You sure you found one this year?

I've seen DSLs host websites, but 64 kbits is as fast as my 56.6 modem? :)

I think interland just merged with hostpro, so don't expect to pay a low price for your dedicated server if you decide to go with them. .. :)

If I were you I wouldn't go get a dedicated server right off the bat. Sign up with a company as a reseller. I am sure you can get a reseller package for like $40 buck for 9-10 domains. Once you get enough domains to cover a dedicated server do that. You can move your customers over pretty easily after that. At least thats what I would reccomend and thats how I started off 4 years ago and worked great for me.
