Only eNom is an actual Registrar. The others are resellers. You can find the complete list of ICANN-Accredited Registrars at http://www.icann.org/registrars/accredited-list.html

I wonder, how do you get to be an accredited registrar anyways...?

Stargate, I love your sig. That has made my evening.

About 70,000 USD in working capital and around another 20K in related startup costs

As long as I get the domain, it's fine.

What's the old chinese proverb? "ICANN accredidation does not a good registrar make" :-)

Good or bad...ICANN accreditation is the only way to become a Registrar.

Tom,
Just because someone is not accredited does not make them illigitimate. Domains registered with a reseller get registered exactly the same as they do with an accredited registrar. A reseller is in fact a registrar it's just not an accredited registrar. This leads back to my point; just because you are accredited does not make you a good registrar. There are alot of accredited registrars out there that are decieving and dishonest.

Whoa...Your putting words in my mouth. I never said a reseller was illegitimate nor did I say you provided a bad service, which is what you seem to be implying about Stargate. IMO, I believe a distinction needs to be made between "registrar resellers" and "Registars", thats all.

Tom

edit for spelling

This is getting nasty. enetwork, are you implying Stargate.com does not provide good service as an ICANN accredited registrar? If you do, you'll have to back it up with facts instead of making "fart and run" statements like that.

Tom,
Of course I was not implying stargate is a bad registrar. I was speaking about some bad apples out there. the quote

"just because you are accredited does not make you a good registrar." was said in general terms.

There is already a distinction between being a registrar or a registrar reseller. That distiction is being an accredited registrar. In the end they are both registrars. One is accredited and one is not.

Apparently there IS a difference between a registrar reseller and an accredited registrar.

Just the facts :D

Odd, you don't seem to sign your name and affiliation in this thread ;)

TimeChange,
I did not sign my signature because someone was asking about our company to begin this thread and I did not want my posting here to be confused with spamming. I was trying to share my opinion on a comment. I thought that was what this board was for. Tom and most know exactly who I am.
