Well my brother decided to have a blast last night on kazza and downloaded something that was infected.

System is all screwed up I can start anything except IE, can't logon as admin and get a "cant runll32.exe" error on eveything I try to run.. So I say ok I will just backup everything I need and format.

Them I make a system disk and copy format.com to it and reboot thinking I can just do a format /s to my c: drive and then just install XP from cd.. well the xp boot floppy won't format anything in "DOS" mode.. So I cant format it and I am afraid if I just do another install from cd over the old XP it will leave something laying around in the MBR or something.

So what I need to do is figure out how to format this drive to I can do a clean install.. In all older windows versions I would just do the above, but it does not seem to work in XP.. and remember I can't logon as admin which is what I think I need to do to unmount the drive.

hopefully someone out there can help me.. thanks in advance.

1. Go to the Bios.
2. Set the "primary boot" to boot from CDROM
3. Insert your WinXP cd in tray.
4. Format HD from the setup.
5. Install Windows.

That`s how I clean up my system.

I once got the PINFI virus from Kazaa, it affected all of my files, they`re still in my CDRs, even virus cleaners cant destroy them.

Lesson: Don`t get files from unknown places or scan every single file.

Hope that helps.

ok, so if I install from CD it should clear everything?

I did not think it would actually format the drive, but rather just copy over the old one.. either way I will be back in 30.

Select the option to format the HD, I am sure it will format the HD :)

Yup, Thanks guys I am back in action..

I have learned no matter what to not let them us my personal PC no matter how much they :bawling:

I actually have a old PC I have them use which is suffering from the same type of things, but it is porn popups and some program trying to dial out via modem (callgirls.exe) so I have decided they can wait to use the computer till they get home and can use that.

thanks again..

I got that same error a couple days ago! Only thing is I never downloaded Kazaa or any other stuff! I couldn't figure out what was causing it. Before it happened I installed MySQL but I doubt that was the cause. I ended up formatting my drive to fix it though.
